What is jerk even used for? Have you ever used it?

Roller coasters. Cars. Planes. It's used to determine the duration for which a human can sustain a g-force. A roller caster that fails to account for jerk will have all its passengers black out.

When my physics professor told me about these I knew I was in the right field. No profession should take itself too seriously.

Imagine that you get on the train and it slowly starts to accelerate. Even if acceleration is pretty high for some time, you have time to prepare and don't fall.
Now imagine that the train starts to accelerate unexpectedly and rapidly. This can cause all sorts of surprises.
Second case has high jerk but same acceleration.

Yes actually, I jerk all the time.

Yes, used heavily in traction control algorithms in the auto world

it's important in motion control and robotics. Even higher order derivatives need to be taken account in mechanisms like cams.

forget jerk, what is absement used in? Absity? Abceleration?

Let's say that volume of water flow per second is proportional to lever displacement. Then the total volume of water is absement multiplied by coefficient.
