Space travel is foolish.
We live in one of the most diverse and hospitable planets in the known universe, by the time we find anything of usefulness we will be unable to utilize it in time.
If we cannot solve our problems here on earth, we are not ready to explore space- we would be as refugees, bringing our cancer with us to another place

For what we currently use space vehicles for?
Useless.

I'm sure there'll be a use in the future on other planets with much lower delta V requirements and/or a thicker atmosphere. Or when for some reason we don't calculate the exact flight plan of every space vehicle months or years in advance.

Lol the thing in OP's pic would work horribly bc the COM of the spaceplane isn't gonna be centred.

But anyways OP there are many issues with them making them basically pointless and retarded as space fairing mechanisms.
1. Renewable rockets more generally run into the issue of fuel density. You gotta carry a ton of fuel per kilo of payload somehow and so whatever you do with the surrounding metalworks, the main cost driver is always going to be that big fat tanker of fuel.
2. When you make spaceplanes reusable you multiply the complexity tenfold, but because of how re-entry works, you have to re-fit the spaceplane after every flight anyways. The complexity adds to these refit times, as well as to safety concerns - gotta re-check every flight system, surface.

the space shuttle was a bad NASA design for delivering a spaceplane to orbit, ruined by the Air Force and Congress and budgetary constraints and cowardice, without a purpose
this is a good Indian design for delivery a spaceplane to suborbital space, for testing high mach dynamics and booster reentry, to help them make a recoverable spaceplane booster

>> No.12677182

Once cost to orbit hits some arbitrary lower bound, spaceplanes are going to become the most popular form of manned spacecraft for sure. There are just so many objective and perceived safety benefits to them over capsule/parachute designs.

>> No.12677215

>>12677051
incorrect, one of the advantages of the spaceplane system is that your engines ONLY need fire in vacuum instead of needing to bring both sea level and vacuum engines (like Starship)

>> No.12677253

>>12677051
Just to be clear. designing a rocket nozzle "to be efficient at the surface and in space" isn't hard and has basically already been done. Most of the upper-stage variants of the RL-10 have extendable nozzle extensions to help make the engine more compact inside the fairing. They even actuated one while an engine was firing once and it didn't blow up.

The issue with single stage rockets isn't engine design. It's payload fraction to orbit as it relates to cost.

Bro chill. I never said I liked SSTOs. I was just pointing out the real issue with building them. People always say it's an issue with engines but that's a fucking lie.

The engines can be built. It's the mass to orbit problem that is unavoidable.
