Gun laws here are cucked. Can only buy a .22 after multiple idiotic paperwork, traveling to shitxico c*ty and having your military service carnet. Not only that but under our retarded laws you'd risk bankruptcy on reparations to the criminal or being sent to jail in case you slaughter it.
Also, you'd be ceased from public service for violating the code of conduct of your sanitary institution.

What's you living situation like? Do you have access to social supports like a social worker or therapist? What do you mean by "get high at all anymore"? What makes you say you're a "listless dopamine starved rat"?

I'm not going to counsel you on killing yourself. Yeah, life is hard. And you might have it harder than some. But that doesn't mean you should kill yourself. I used to plan to kill myself because I was a retarded, ugly, blue collar loser with no future who barely graduated high school. I decided I wanted to medical school instead of killing myself. Lots of uncertainty and self-doubt. But I'm glad that I didn't kill myself. I would encourage you to take drastic steps to improve your life instead of ending it. After all, the best suicide is a life well lived.

>> No.12657260

Situation is comfortable but relying on people, social supports are very lackluster. Extremely lackluster, dull sheen on everything they do.
I smoke weed, it doesn't work anymore, can't catch a buzz, from cigarettes, food, sex. Sleep isn't as satisfying as it used to be.

I lay around in bed with no drive, waiting for food and death.

I don't believe the medication will ever let up even once I'm off it, will never return to normal. So it's this half-awake half-suffering state I'm stuck in.

I didn't really need much to feel fulfilled, weed and relying on my natural abilities to coast through things kept me happy, but much of that has been ripped away. Again, unlikely to return.

Thanks for the sentiment, sometimes it gets unbearable.

They, as in the urologist, found nothing on me except protein in urine, not alot of protein but enough to raise a few questions. The CMP was normal, CBC was normal, everything was normal except the slight albuminuria.

I also seem to be having diabetic symptoms despite having a fasting rate of 90, just yesterday I urinated in a cup, poured it out, smelled the remains in the cup and it was rather sugary. You could even see granules of sugar in the cup. Admittedly I did eat alot the day before so maybe some glucose leaked into there idk but even so, this isn't normal I don't think (I'm sure you all would agree).

Yeah don't really know what's going on but if you guys could tell me what I should -probably- do in order to prevent a disease I wouldn't want to deal with in the future please do tell me.

It mostly stays in your oropharynx and mouth. Because of cough reflex and particulate size, doesn't get inhaled into lungs.

That's for previous smokers, right? That's the problem, so far I've only found some on rats and mice, somewhat isolating nicotine. They're not conclusive, but outline adverse effects on lungs.

Two questions:

>1. Ok, do vaccines reduce transmission?
I just watched a TV report saying that these new vaccines can "reduce transmission by up to 70%"?
I also read things that said that people can still carry the virus even with the vaccine, which leads me to my next question.

>2. Do transmitted viruses from vaccinated people have the ability to mutate?
I'm thinking the answer is yes, right? So why the fuck do people think that these covid vaccines will the end of this crisis when they could WORSEN the spread and mutation of this virus? Not only could you still transmit the virus, but you potentially give it the ability to propagate to reservoirs for mutation too.

>> No.12664138

>>12664112
>I just watched a TV report saying that these new vaccines can "reduce transmission by up to 70%"?
Prelim data suggests it does reduce transmission but we need actual studies.
>Do transmitted viruses from vaccinated people have the ability to mutate?
Yes if transmission occurs and mutation is at a significant enough rate that it outpaces immunological destruction. It is unlikely but with the mRNA vaccine platform, it is easy to modify the vaccine for future vaccine-resistant strains if they arise and if enough people get vaccinated, then we won't have to worry about this being an issue at all.

I like how politicians are talking about opening borders in one of the few covid free nations in the world, when we don't even know if this vaccine is effective at stopping transmission. >> No.12664227

what is the mechanism that stops transmission?

>>12664216
>this vaccine and the false sense of security it brings could worsen this crisis
This is overly dramatic and unrealistic. The rate of mutation will likely not outpace our immune response in vaccinated individuals and even if it does we have the r+d done to modify boosters very easily.

>> No.12664236

>>12664227

Data says a lot of things, but I want to know the exact mechanism that does that.

>This is overly dramatic and unrealistic.
I don't want to be taking a vaccine every 6 months, especially when some people can't be vaccinated. I think vaccines do mildly impact the body and most of the time it's mild and ignorable. But if that becomes regular then it may stop being a mild degradation to the body. I already have a problem with flu shots because my grandparents always became ill after having them.

Nor do I want to compromise my national states effective quarantine by gambling on such things. I think quarantine, at this point in time, is the only solution to solving this crisis. But unfortunately every other national state is ineffective at mobilising it's people into quarantining (my state is weird, we've had town plans and protocols for decades that aimed at curbing pandemics).

I’ve been looking at the way model interviewees talk in med school interview videos and I’ve been thinking, are you actually meant to talk this way on the job? Do the doctors ITT unironically talk that way to their patients? As in all formal and posh.

the residency is what it is, your real problem is getting it in the first place. it aint a cakewalk for IMG's no matter who you are and the rona complicates the situation even more

Yes. Just get high step scores, apply widely, apply in specialties where it’s relatively easier like IM, and when covid is cleared up then do some electives here and get good lors from your US electives

Wtf
You guys don’t have a step equivalent?
Did you apply DO too?

>> No.12668054

>>12668006
Australian so there's no DO here.

There are several steps for dental specialisation including examinations but every single person I have spoken to has mentioned how important dental GPA is, and the Uni did the same. Some even said if you aren't top ~5% then you are almost certainly going to be a general dentist. I don't think it's that high but there's certainly a huge emphasis on it compared to medicine.

It's doable but will be tough. You need above average scores for general surgery.
>I assume the competitive subspecialties are impossible to get into as well (like gi or cards)
No as long as you make decent connections during residency and do lots of research

thanks mate, sounds like I'll need it. I do actually want to specialise in dentistry rather than do general pathway. I spent a bit of time shadowing ENT surgeons out of interest and loved it, especially head and neck surgery. Oral surgery would be pretty interesting especially working in irradiated mouths if it is still a viable thing when I can specialise as MaxFacs takes a bit of work and we need to do the whole 4 years of medicine here if we want to do it.

would still prefer medicine though all of my med friends have said take dent and run with it

all the DO seats all getting filled by harvard level applicants, according to adcoms, which blows. I had very competitive DO stats, applied to 20 DO schools, yet have had one interview this cycle
