this comic is perfect and demonstrates the engineer's pragmatic nature
1. if the mathematician can accurately measure the hypotenuse (and phi), why can he not just measure the height of the building instead?
2. physicist putting himself and others in danger by dropping an anvil from the top of a building, and forgetting to account for air resistance in his calculation

fahrenheit and rankine both have different increments than Celsius. Fahrenheit increments were vaguely defined until the metric system and the entire imperial system was standardized by the metric system

yes this implies that imperial units don't work. if all laws were originally decided in imperial system then yeah maybe it would work but they weren't. some minor stuff engineer tards use have an imperial variant. the reason all scientists adapted imperial is that units are clearly defined, the imperial system varied a lot until it defined its units by the metric system.

you can put your hand in an oven because when you open the oven door the oven air is exposed to room temp air and mixes, lowering the air temp (this is why you don't want to open your oven when baking something, see >>>/ck/ )

>>12634327
most college degrees are scams
engineering is an actual thing that does necessitate a college education (because engineers need to know what they're doing so people don't die), but you're still subjected to a lot of the scam shit anyway - predatory loans, textbook prices (freshies don't know about international and used editions), mandatory housing and meal plan, etc.

Since Celsius is centered around the more practical 0C, you need to visualize the "daily practical range" as -50C to 50C. Same 100 steps, and unlike Fahrenshit it actually encompasses the near-entirety of all temperatures experienced by anyone in daily life anywhere. The "0-100F" meme doesn't even hold in America, where lots of places regularly exceed and go below 100F/0F, respectively.

the imperial system literally wasn't defined until 1960. a foot could be 20cm or 60cm. the imperial system was DEFINED BY FUCKING METRIC UNITS. the metric system is superior because it was made to eliminate variation. the metric is defined by physical constants and it's constantly improving. in fact despite all the technological progress and new definitions the meter length has barely changed

nice try anon. even if i were to take your bait, most places in US do have heating and cooling design temps somewhere between 0-100 F, or within a few degrees. and the locations that are outliers would tend to have lower populations anyway since people generally aren't comfortable living in more extreme climates.

>>12637688
ok? i don't need you to explain the history of units to me. I can use SI or imperial without being a bleeding pussy shill for either. In the US, engineers use both depending on what the prevalent units are in whatever industry we're working in. try telling the gas company that you need 1000 kW gas service at your building, that will go well.
