/a/ thinks humanity can't colonize Mars because of its gravity, /sci/. Are they correct?

We don't know the effects of lower gravity on human development. Claiming that something is impossible based on something that isn't even figured out is stupid. Worst case scenario: Martians are raised on 1g space stations in low Martian orbit or in large centrifuge homes on the planet's surface

We have clues. Astronauts on the ISS have evidence of muscle atrophy. Not to mention other problems with their blood and accelerated aging.

>Astronauts on the ISS have evidence of muscle atrophy. Not to mention other problems with their blood and accelerated aging.
That's because they're in micro-g and were exercising incorrectly for decades. The effects of reduced gravity and proper health procedures are still an unknown. An unknown that can be worked out

That would make the gravity weaker, and rotational motion is conserved (it would only experience net torque if the exhaust left the atmosphere at escape velocity)

I think the bigger issue with Mars is that it has basically no ozone compared to Earth meaning the sun will murder you because of all the radiation on Mars. There are also no resources, no trees, no fruits, no animals, no water... etc.

cause it'd fuck up the shitty microgravity on the space station even more. ISS is intended to study microgravity. Fucking meatbags moving around impart vibrations that interfere with microgravity experiments.

On the contrary my friend, Iceland is actually plentyful of fish in the sea, the climate isn't even really that cold (on the coast at least) because of the gulf current, and it's also full of hydroelectric and geothermal energy.

Isolation. That alone is more valuable than you could possibly imagine, a nation on earth will have trouble dominating such a world given the distances between the two and if Mars ever established itself properly with cities and infrastructure spanning the planet then the disunited nations of earth would find it difficult to every make a move on such a world.

>> No.12624371

We will see how the gravity affects human biology.
It's possible low G could be really bad for us, gestation could be impossible ect.
It's actually much much easier to make 1G in orbit than it is on the surface of Mars.

>> No.12624377

>>12623023
The gravity on Mars is about 40% that of Earth and I’m pretty sure that will be sufficient. Martians will probably be tall as fuck and mog the shit out of any visiting earthlings, but I doubt they will have any real negative effects on the planet itself.

It might decrease lifespan in normal humans, but humans born there will likely adapt, though they will likely NEVER be able to return to earth.
With proper breeding programs the humans there could produce extremely optimal humans for living on mars.
Thus, likely NO one with a preexisting health condition will be able to join the mars colony. Because it's more effective to have human that are useful and viable than extra people that unviable.

The answer is actually much simpler. Have we colonized Sahara? What made you think that we would somehow colonize the Sahara that's between 40 to 400 million kilometers away from the actual Sahara?

We can colonize Mars and we should. Everyone who thinks it is a good idea will get a FREE ticket and free sunblock.

On Mars there will be no police, no conservative straight white males and no taxes. There will however be free money.

Anyone who thinks this a great idea will get a FREE ticket plus $10,000 extra spending money on Mars.

Mars is flat, just like the Earth. Everyone who believes this will get a FREE ticket plus a free map of flat Mars.

It may be expensive to shift a large percentage of Earth's population to Mars, but believe me it will be worth every penny.

Its just my eternal regret that I will not be able to go. :(

We are better off colonizing the moon and sending robots to explore mars. There is no real economic advantage to sending humans to mars since it is a hostile environment and know known resources to make it worth colonizing.
Moon is a three day trip from earth. A great launching point for asteroid mining since it's up the gravity well. There is Helium 3 if we ever crack fusion moon just makes more sense.

Mars has no magnetic field so you get dosed by radation.
Its gravity is lower.
Takes months to get to with conventional technology.
Its dust is toxic with perchlorates so any dust that gets brought in is hazardous.
In short mars is a death sentence with no incentive at this point given current technological development.
We should be focusing on the moon and sending robots and probes to mars. there is no reason to send people only to have them die.
