Starlink only accepts customers in countries where they have permission to service. In theory you could setup an account in another country and then smuggle equipment into China but given the bi-directional nature of the link, Starlink is going to notice that you're always in China and likely suspend your account.

Well I was wondering two things

1) How simple is the local hardware, can you make a satellite receiver in a garage if you were a competent government dissenter? From what I know public knowledge of electronics is actually pretty decent because they build that shit for us and I've seen some videos on youtube that make hong kong look like a giant radioshack, hyperbole of course.

2) What if elon refuses to censor traffic or forbid traffic to/from china? He says they can shoot his satellites down, but china will cause kessler syndrome which I know will not go smoothly with uncle sam and be interpreted as an act of war, as well as pissing off the globalists who want as much connectivity and growth in the global market as possible. If you just took down global high speed internet to keep your draconian hugbox china might find out who's really in charge.

It's a phased array antenna, which I know very little about aside from the fact that they're generally pricey. I'm willing to bet that the cost is more due to the fact that they're pretty niche equipment and Starlink is the first to bring real economies of scale into the equation.
The components might not be that costly, especially in China, so with some cleverly distributed build plans I'll bet you'd start seeing black market antennae.

Nah. The romans never had a chance; slave-based economies never innovate. If they had been anti-slavery from the beginning, then yes. Maybe having the provinces be anti-slave (their reasoning being so that italy could maintain a labor advantage) would have given them the pressures enough to develop mechanized labor, particularly in the wet mines of iberia and gaul.

>> No.12603808

>>12603792
Phased array means it uses multiple antennae to produce constructive interference at specific points, which allows you to focus the energy in a beam. It's the same tech that drives military radar and 5G masts. I'm guessing this allows allows for a very easy setup since the dish can orient itself and kind of point at the satellite, then do the rest with the phased array for a very stable connection.

It also needs a base station within a bounce of your location. It doesn't magically pull internets out of hyperspace. The laser links (when they happen) are probably only going to be between adjacent sats in the same orbit ring.
And then while technically you might be able to get it bounced in (say) parts of China close to India or Japan, it would still know your location and black you out anyhow.
And you can't build a phased array antenna in your garage. That is some high tech level shit. In 2008 I was working on a little project to get satellite radio with a 16-patch antenna (I think Starlink is 256-patch) and I learned just how magic it was. (I only got to do some antenna rotation code and an FPGA loader before the project imploded.) In particular, what few chipsets existed then were marketed (and priced!) for military projects. They were doing that shit with an FPGA and a lot of PhD-tier math.

Man Falcon 9 really is tough. It’s neat that they don’t static fire anymore but it also makes sense; The engines fired only a month ago with no issue so why do we need to fire them now? What difference does it make? Most rocket engines like the RS-68 normally fire MONTHS ahead of launch and then get packed away and installed with no static fire (unless there’s some weird engine shutdown at start, but that doesn’t count. Also neat is how even an “old” Falcon 9 can still push the envelope with the landing. I thought that was really cool I was worried we’d see the thing crash. Last but not least it’s amazing how the Falcon 9’s airframe is taking these launches so well.

They probably inspect/clean them between flights.
For example the 5th Starlink launch had an engine shut-off during ascent because there was some cleaning fluid left. Don't know if there was a static fire or if it could have detected the problem.

A fatal flaw in using it as a one-and-done aerial rover. I wonder if something like that would be useful for aiding human exploration though? I guess the only advantage it'd offer over a regular drone would be range, if you could get it to fly out to some distance and back for a recharge it might make for a neat scout.

if you could get a message to elon by spamming like this retard what would it be?

seriously tough, elon is setting himself for a nasty stuff by replying to this, 154 is really rookie numbers when it comes to spamming, next guy who wants his attention will send 100.000.
Hell, with the power of exponential growth if a couple of guys start a campaign they can easily send him 1.000.000 times the same message

>Elon did nothing wrong, orders aren't laws.
This is true as well, but I didn't mention it because too many people don't grasp that concept.
The lockdown orders were more "guidelines" and "suggestions" than anything. They were published to try and stop corona-chan. Elon actually did try all of the politically correct ways to reopen, such as talking with the health department, setting up a work environment with generous spacing, supplying gloves/masks/sanitizer to employees. He finally got tired of it because he was being told to fuck off, with no good reason to remain in lockdown other than the health dept director going "because I said so".

Yeah. Look at how fascinating Pluto and Charon were from the perspective of New Horizons, which just barely scraped the surface. Then consider that there are many discovered trans-Neptunian objects that are similar or larger than Charon, and countless others lurking in the shadows. Even closer, you've got the various types of asteroids, the centaurs, the hardly-explored moons of Uranus and Neptune, and worlds like Venus and Titan which have been thoroughly explored but are still shrouded in mystery. Some of the solar system's greatest gems have certainly gone unseen, and I hope we see a revolution in interplanetary probes soon.

Which is why I said very left wing people to separate them from the average leftists. The difference between them and the odd oil executive that hates Musk is that their political views isn't the root of the hatred. No one on the right has any ideological issues with Musk and I would rather not get into a shit flinging contest but referring to them as very left wing is the easiest way to describe who we are talking about.

Somebody that knew both languages had to actually write it down and he did it like that and I myself am having trouble knowing what he was thinking when he wrote it down the way he did.

Aside from that I don’t give a shit about the name or some random rock in the middle of nowhere being called that. If they called a habitable or potentially habitable world something like that then I would be slightly annoyed, but not nearly as annoyed as the people living there.

They were coming from the direction of the beach. There are no other land routes to that beach besides Boca Chica Boulevard, so they were either on the beach before the road closure or they came from that little industrial area with a dock a few miles north.

It's just funny cos it's so predictable. I was in Brussels in 2003 or so and via a random series of coincidences ended up listening to a Princeton barbershop type singing group on tour. They all introduced themselves and this one manlet was like 'I'm so and so, from brahville, and blah blah blah, and I can bench X POUNDS!!!'I

You guys don't change

I love working out as it goes. I can't go too heavy due to connective tissue problems these days but I have a reasonable base from when I was younger. I was about 13.5 stone at 5'10 with 7% bodyfat at my best about ten years ago. Never bothered measuring my pbs but my chest was always weak. I'm not ashamed. Nor do I feel the need to brag.
