Question regarding planetary body rotation because i've always been incredibly shit at geometry and basically everything.

>can a spherical planetary body have "drifting" polar regions in addition to normal day-night cycle?

That is, the axis of rotation to slowly drift so that different parts of the surface reside on the poles ie Antarctica goes where Africa is and vice versa over time. Note, no continents/mantle is actually drifting - just the face with which the planet looks at the star.

I need it for a small short story regarding crawling glaciers and unpleasant winters, and I can't figure out how to explain it. First idea involves orbital inclination, but since I want the process to involve more than a single year my hands are tied. The rotation of the planet seemed like a good candidate but I'll be damn I can't wrap my head around how to make it work or even visualize how it looks. If all else fails - magic.

Is that what I said? I said it's a waste of time. I didn't say it would take longer than developing Starship, it could have just taken a year and still been a waste of time. And incidentally, it might still have taken longer. Falcon Heavy itself was supposed to be "easy" and that project itself compared to Starship is a great example of how counter intuitively easier it is to move forward by going back to the drawing board than trying to adapt legacy systems.

Lots of people think about robots replacing soldiers but that isn't how it's going to happen for a very long time.
The way it'll actually work will be humans doing most of the heavy lifting with robots helping out. To start with they will be carrying gear, then they might get weapons and automatic targeting with a human puling the trigger. From there I could see a couple of blade dogs being stationed around a town while infantry clear it, if anyone approaches or flees the town the slice-hound can tell it's handler and ask if it gets to play.

It isn't going to be all or nothing with the first robots deployed maintaining a FOB on their own.

If the humanoid robots can be controlled by a real human in a haptic feedback suit then I'll be impressed, as is this a great demonstration of dexterity and balance control but it's all still preprogrammed. If the robot can dance by receiving the feedback of a human who is dancing then it will become useful. This would mean that a person say in a command ship in Mars orbit could put on a haptic suit and VR headset and control a robot in real time on the surface for early construction work or for work too hazardous to risk a person on later on.
Until that point of real time control though this is all still just a marketing gimmick.

that makes no sense, we already have marksmen that can shoot a moving target kms away, the bottleneck is the time it takes him to take the decision, if you introduce human decision in the loop youre fukcin g it up

actually we already have combat robots, since the 1970s, they are called elecotrioncic warfare. All electronic warfare systems fire automatically under certain conditions, because if you introduce human reaction times into the loop youre losing all advantage.

Have you ever read the report on those 1.5km shots? None are first round hits and all took 5+ minutes of setting up before taking the shots.
>the bottleneck is the time it takes him to take the decision
No, the fight time of those shots is longer than how long it takes to see if someone is armed.

Think about a MBT grade targeting system with laser range finding and atmospheric conditions measured every second connected to a FLIR camera that looks for people.
It''s going to find people faster and at longer range than a human would, zoom in and give the operator a clear view so they can make the call.
For boots on the ground today fighting a near peer enemy those that see the other first generally win.

It was the first prototype to properly launch so everything after 150m altitude was a success. To pull off the bellyflop maneuver was an incredible achievement for their simulation team and everyone working on the rocket and then to land back on the pad. First fucking flight. Unbelievable.

One engine ate itself in such a way that it vastly cheaped the cost of retiring and disposing of the airframe.

Isaac Arthur isn't a SpaceNews channel and barely relevant to the thread. Does he even comment directly on SpaceX and NASA shit?

I like all the channels because I can in 2020 watch nothing but futurist/space news and ignore Media outlets entirely which is fantastic for quality of life and morale and a great contrast to 45 seconds of a shuttle launch that gets talked over and then derided as starving Africans as i was used to growing up.

Manley's videos are usually pretty shit with low res images he throws up on screen with no context or explanation. His historical stuff is fine but his videos explaining technical details or pretty lacking. Say what you will about Everyday Astronaut, he dumps a ton of time into production value, diagrams, animations, etc. I'd much rather a space YouTuber dumb things down a bit as an entry level crash course so that if you want further info you can do reading on a topic rather than Manley's style of just throwing out the technical lines with no elaboration and then moving on.

there's no such thing as "neoliberal" there's economic freedom, which has been the cause of every single good thing that humanity has ever done (some greek and roman stuff, venice geniuses, most of the united states, all european science and advancement, a little freedom was allowed somtimes to russians and soviets and thats the whole reason they ever did anything good) thats on the one side.

on the other side you have opression, hitler, stalin, kings, torture, dark ages, communism, book burning, etc.

theres nod ebate, theres nothing to argue, its good vs wrong. "would you rather have a good happy life in which youre young and have access to a lot of wealth and many young girls service you sexually at your will or would you rather i torture you in the worst way you can imagine for 1 year till you die?"
its a no question, theres only one right side and whoever convinced anyone that theres not is clearly INMENSELEY evil

like seriously. abolish the state and let free market (aka the only kind of freedom that exists) rule everything, imagine your life right now only with your salary is worth twice the money plus it pays no taxes, there are 10 times more job opportunities than now, and you can use it to buy 1000 times better products for 1/10 the current price. Wrong. A “real” experience originates from sensory contact with actual existing things in the physical universe. A “fake” experience is one artificially fed to the brain that presents a falsehood, like your desire to hold hands with your anime girlfriend you have because you’ve never had a real one.

You desire to muddy the distinction because you instinctively feel something flawed about replacing something real with a shifty simulacra, and want that cognitive dissonance to go away.

>A “real” experience originates from sensory contact with actual existing things in the physical universe.
what a way of outing yourself as a people who would be laughed at by any scientist from a top tier ivy league organization.

i insist, they way you would be laughed at thorougly by the entirety of the room while you were saying something that you were convinced was very smart but finding out in the process it was extremely embarasing would haunt you in your dreams till your last days if ever you dared speak these words outside of your retard circle of people

Reddit nihilism leads to you wanting to live in a simulation with your anime waifu instead of living in reality. Figures.

And you have fun not reading things and lacking human autonomy because some old dead guy you never heard of controls your serotonin structure. Like shit man, your entire argument relied on a bold faced denial of the mind body problem which would get an undergrad laughed into the hallway.

There is an obvious and clear distinction between reality, imagination, and computer-generated fiction apparent to everyone without schizophrenia, anon. Holding hands with an anime girl in VRChat is not "real" in the same sense holding hands with your actual girlfriend in an actual park under the actual sun is. You are trying to rationalize escapism. Stop.

Yeah well prove it faggot with a dissertation and be lauded as the best philosopher to ever live? I have no issue with your stance against simulations but your entire argument and world view is retarded and ridiculous like you think your social zeitgeist is some immutable physical law or something.
