I stopped smoking weed cold turkey. The next three days I had the wildest dreams ever. I can't tell you why. But was kinda fascinating and seems to be a regular phenomenon.

based on my sciencey observances, it would appear to be a way to rehearse certain scenarios that you wish or worry will occur
or something in between, vague ideas with a scattering of lingering images thrown in at random

Just because your brain is resting doesn't mean it's turned off. It stops sending external sensory information to focus on repairs and information processing, but its still on, and the parts of the brain that transfer information to you are exercising.

Very common actually. Something to do with THC suppressing REM sleep, or at least the "perception" of REM sleep dreams, so ya brain goes wild after dropping the weed

It’s called rem rebound. Things that are are sedatives fuck rem sleep. You need rem sleep. Rem rebound usually causes people to wake up sweaty. You get your normal rem sleep but hardcore and longer. I get violent dreams personally if I rem rebound. If something causes rem rebound you shouldn’t take it as your brain need rem sleep and inhibiting it from getting rem sleep is not good.

Its your Subconscious which is why we don't remember most of our dreams. It works in reverse with nightmares our Subconscious tries to wake us up by using things it knows will wake us up.

There's no definitive theory. I remember in a psych elective I took they taught us that it's probably a rehearsal process and used to encode memories/lower-brain functions. Or maybe it's our consciousness projecting into the astral plane; both can be true I guess.

You can train yourself to remember them. I keep a sporadic dream journal, but I used to record them every morning. I could tell you every dream I had the last week and I still visually remember most of the ones I wrote down when I look back on them. I've also lucid dreamed but never because of the dream journaling.
