inbuilt navigation systems shouldnt be in cars, and radio is incredibly easy to operate, it's just on, off, volume dial, station dial. and there's a seek feature, as well as presets so you dont have to manually tune in. these arent new features, theyve been around for decades, and they dont need a fucking touchscreen

R8 my idea I just spent the day brainstorming:

>"Poseidon" ultra-heavy lift launch system
>fully-resuable, hypersonic, amphibious air launch to orbit
>mothership launcher is a ~120 meter long amphibious suborbital spaceplane that takes off and lands from the surface of the ocean
>has variable-sweep wings with slotted flaps for takeoff that fold back during the insertion flight and then extend again for landing
>mothership carries a self-propelled payload module on it's back similar to the one that would have been used on the unbuilt Shuttle C with an upward opening cargo door, but significantly larger capable of carrying up to 500 tonnes to LEO
>powered by linear aerospike engines that burn RP-1 and LOX
>payload module becomes the second stage upon being jettisoned in flight at around mach 6 just below the karman line
>payload module burns LH2 and LOX for higher specific impulse, possibly using vacuum-optimized RS-25's
>propellant for both the mothership and the payload module are extracted directly from seawater in situ by electrolysis
>after the payload module is jettisoned, the mothership flies itself back to the launch site
>mothership only needs modest heat protection on the underside because it is not exposed to full re-entry stresses
>payload module is reusable via de-orbit and splashdown recovery

>overall, the system's main role in the space program would be orbital habit construction or orbital refueling with a tanker variant of the payload module, and occasionally de-orbiting derelict objects from their graveyard orbits .

Same reason people still use cable internet, it's a lot faster than satellites. Satellites are useful for international communication but in return have slower speed because of high far up they are.

>How can anythig pass the Thermosphere if it is 2500 degrees hot?
The air density in the Thermosphere is close to a vacuum, in other words: low mass. If you drop 1 ml of hot water into a massive tank, does the tank become hot? No.

Interesting. Some are speculating that SNxx bonked into SN42 at 2nd engine shutdown https://youtu.be/ap-BkkrRg-o?t=6685

There is a touch of green flame coming out at SN42 at that time.. What do you guys think? If they did collide then it's extremely impressive that SN42 was durable enough to keep going for a minute+ afterwards. You would think that a dent in the regenerative cooling system would be fatal.

Regardless of the above the raptors were impressive . No honks, effortless relights, ran for a longass time in close proximity to the others, and the exceptional g forces and quick gimbaling didn't seem to bother them at all. This test has single-handedly put to bed all that raptor FUD.

Minor damage to the engine nozzle wouldn't cause it to fail. I also feel suspicious of the claim they bumped as the engines that shutdown move out of the way as is visible in the pic.

However when the engines shutdown it appeared as there was a speck of green during ascent. Engine shuts down, the other engines exhibit a green speck. Similar sequence occurred during the landing burn but In a much more severe manner.

Even despite that pixel counters claim the vehicle maintained 35m/s descend velocity meaning the single engine was giving it about 1g acceleration, cancelling the earth's gravity.

I feel like it might be some issue along the piping that gets triggered by the shock from engine shutdowns.

The problem with that is that the misanthropic doomist views spouted by those academic careerists are infinitely less exciting and inspiring than someone getting something done to push exploration further. It would be interesting to compare SpaceX's and BO's hiring differences. From what I've heard Musk doesn't care about uni degrees and is more interested in what a person has actually done and what problems they've solved. I'd imagine that BO is more traditional with a focus on big name degrees/resumes and prestige.

You could replace the SSMEs with a single VacRaptor, replace the flat wing and unicorn fart TPS with a modern tiled lifting body full of propellant tanks (avoiding the Columbia failure mode), and have the ability to do lunar landing+return with no depots. Hang it on the side of the Starship with no TPS and you avoid the Challenger failure mode too.

Paid translation of animu can never be as good as fansubs because fansubs care about things like kanji puns and don't have to make the translation jelly donut tier to appeal to a broad audience. Paid translations of mango and especially LNs can be much better than the fan versions. Spend accordingly.

Once the base hardware is in place we're going to be able to do a ton of cool shit with custom starship solutions.

Based on what's been proven, plus heat shield and superheavy, yes. Starship SN15 or 16 should be orbital, and they'll be immediately capable of massive ridesharing / Starlink yeeting. Orbital refueling is only neccesary for GTO and Mars. altered g sports is gonna be the fucking shit

Imagine all these sports:
-ball games
-dance
-ender game style laser tag
-crazy races sometimes including flapping wings
-box and free style fights
-swimming

all sorts of crazy variation of those made in: 0g, low g on the surface of a planet, low g on a rotating habitat HIGH g on a rotating habitat, even variable G. Oh god its gonna be crazy

some highlights:
-swimming on the moon you could swim fast enough to propel yourself out of the water, imagine the ballets or the crazy swim races. Imagine a fucking race in which you have to jump to another pool at a certain time.
Also you could have cylindrical space station that have water to their sides. also 0 g blobs of water flowating to the air

-flapping your wings: in low enough g, all the way to 0 you can easily fly by flapping wings, this could be done in a space station or in titan or in a pressurized shell in a low g airless world.

-fucking imagine, 1.5g fighting, or even 2g, the guys fighting to stand up while trying to beat each other up and being made up of a silly mass of muscles for training in high g. Hell maybe even earth athletes would go up to the space station to train in high g and enjoy the difference when they return.

-EVA GAMES, fucking imagine sports done in EVA suits, you have to jump from obstacle from obstacle using only your body, you could get one of those pressure models that are skintight, and you could have a jetpack in case of emergencies but be disqualified if you used it

-Last but not least, imagine a silly mix up of these concepts, an ultra complex game played on a space station that CHANGES g and theres water and fighting and laser tag and wings

at least one if not eventually all of these ideas would be fantastic. I think someone should start making them into videogames

I don't know that number (though presumably it's larger as that probably has a bigger cross-section to happen) but the basic principle is still that galaxies are largely empty space with the well-being of star systems not really dependent on the overall structure of the galaxy.

If another solar system were headed for ours, on the other hand, that would be very bad news indeed.
