>How did you guys get into SpaceX?

I first heard of them when I saw a thread on /b/ in 2010 or 2011, not sure. There was a leaked video of a failed grasshopper test, and everyone was just laughing at that rich Musk guy and his exploding prototype. But not much later after that, they released a successful grasshopper hop video, and that's what did it for me. It's when I knew that if SpaceX doesn't go bankrupt, they will eventually make a landing rocket. I've been following their progress ever since, watched as mush of the streams as I could live, and those I couldn't - on the next day. I saw the Falcon 9 mature, the ITS/BFR/Starship presentations made me really optimistic in times that were hard for me. Then the mad lad started welding scraps in a field, /sfg/ was born, and everyone is just laughing at that rich Musk guy and his exploding prototypes.

>20 December 1962 F-104A 56-749 ATPS USAF written off pilot ok
>This F-104 crashed during X15 pre-mission gliding excercises after the pilot Milt Thompson lost control. He ejected successfully. The aircraft was destroyed. It suffered asymmetric flap condition during X-15 gliding exercises which resulted in uncommanded roll. Thompson was practicing low lift/drag approaches and when he was configuring the aircraft for one of these approaches, only one of the flaps extended leaving him with an asymmetric flap configuration. Initially he was able to control the roll caused by this configuration but subsequently the aircraft became uncontrollable. He safely ejected at about 20,000 feet altitude and landed not too far from a road. He hiked to the road and shortly a farmer came by in a truck and asked if he could give him a ride. Thompson took the offer, and the farmer brought him back to the Center. The aircraft crashed and was totally destroyed.

My dream show would a be a scientifically-grounded story about space truckers smuggling shit through the solar system. The sheer multitude of icy moons and dwarf planets in the outer solar system could allow for hundreds of potentially habitable locations for the story to happen within the reach of near future technology, and the conflict between a draconian central government and rugged frontiersmen would be compelling. Basically Firefly, but in our solar system and no psychics, artificial gravity, or space cannibals.

Did you learn about this now? P2P application to military transports has been thrown around for a while and in the recent year or two even officially by a few voices in the military, but it suffers from the same problems P2P has - overflight and ground based support for returning vehicles.

Ground support for return is a vastly overstated problem if Starship can return empty without a Superheavy. Especially if Raptor can be made to burn regular LNG. But even if it requires it's own refueling setup, it won't be flying into combat. A realistic use of Starship for military logistics would be something like Anderson AFB to Riyadh, or to Germany, or some other major American logistical hub. From there it would be offloaded onto vehicles more suited to front line duty. Similar to a C-5 Galaxy, you're not going to land one on an unimproved airstrip in Azerbaijan on short notice.

The machine itself was flawed, the processing was flawed and the procedures where insufficient to catch these major flaws.
The tiles where notoriously unreliable and there where no on orbit checks nor any means to fix a broken tile for most of the programm.
The SRBs where a serious risk, not only because SRBs on a manned vehicle are an inherent risk, but because they had some serious design flaws that led to one shuttle blowing up.
It also had no launch escape system and aborting a launch was only possible after the boosters burned out, wich is after maxQ and pretty much pointless.

The shuttle hardware was as flawed as the processes around it.

Legal wavers use to be legally binding, you buy a ticket at the drag races that says "this shit is dangerous, you could be killed or mained" and you forfit the right to sue if you are killed or maimed.
Well there were several legal challenges to this and the precedent was set that wavers don't mean shit.

This means you can't buy a ticket to a rocket launch with seats 1km away because no matter what you sign if you are killed or injured you or your family can still sue.
I just want to be able to make that choice for myself instead of NASA / SpaceX lawyers deciding I can't because they can't have legal immunity from my choice.

retarded manchildren, this is not the case.

Waivers are very much binding, the cases in which they were not aplicable is because of reasonable reasons.

Like, imagine that i make you sign at gunpoint, or that the info is not complete.

"Hey, sign this waver that you wont sue me for being killed by killer squirrels in my park"
"WHAT? HOW IS IT RELEVANT THAT I WAS TRAINING KILLER SQUIRRELS, HE SIGNED A WAIVER"

or for instance, anyone who makes you sign a waiver would still be a target to legal risks becasue youre clearly retarded and hes taking advantage, this is for your protection mostly.

Like, actual able minded human beings can be fooled, the problem is you dont know youre a retard. God i hate normies shitting on the few parts of the legal system that actively protects them from their stupidity
