The LOX tank doesn't have to be in the nose, it's just there to move the CoM forward and make the bellyflop maneuver easier. Once the get the landing down they can just move it if they need more payload/habitation space.

I first heard of them when I saw a thread on /b/ in 2010 or 2011, not sure. There was a leaked video of a failed grasshopper test, and everyone was just laughing at that rich Musk guy and his exploding prototype. But not much later after that, they released a successful grasshopper hop video, and that's what did it for me. It's when I knew that if SpaceX doesn't go bankrupt, they will eventually make a landing rocket. I've been following their progress ever since, watched as mush of the streams as I could live, and those I couldn't - on the next day. I saw the Falcon 9 mature, the ITS/BFR/Starship presentations made me really optimistic in times that were hard for me. Then the mad lad started welding scraps in a field, /sfg/ was born, and everyone is just laughing at that rich Musk guy and his exploding prototypes.

This is actually kinda neat. It's a document full of potential science objectives for astronauts on the moon. Unsurprisingly, there's not really any meat in terms of HLS or other vehicles, except for a recommendation that an unmanned lander be sent to the Artemis 3 site in advance (which I think is built into the BO proposal).

Ground support for return is a vastly overstated problem if Starship can return empty without a Superheavy. Especially if Raptor can be made to burn regular LNG. But even if it requires it's own refueling setup, it won't be flying into combat. A realistic use of Starship for military logistics would be something like Anderson AFB to Riyadh, or to Germany, or some other major American logistical hub. From there it would be offloaded onto vehicles more suited to front line duty. Similar to a C-5 Galaxy, you're not going to land one on an unimproved airstrip in Azerbaijan on short notice.

The tiles where notoriously unreliable and there where no on orbit checks nor any means to fix a broken tile for most of the programm.
The SRBs where a serious risk, not only because SRBs on a manned vehicle are an inherent risk, but because they had some serious design flaws that led to one shuttle blowing up.
It also had no launch escape system and aborting a launch was only possible after the boosters burned out, wich is after maxQ and pretty much pointless.

The shuttle hardware was as flawed as the processes around it.
