Additionally, with production accelerating and fidelity increasing, SpaceX has built 10 Starship prototypes. SN9 is almost ready to move to the pad, which now has two active stands for rapid development testing.>SN8’s flight test is an exciting next step in the development of a fully reusable transportation system capable of carrying both crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, and beyond. HOW FAR DOES SN8 GO /SFG/? FINAL PREDICTIONShttps://www.strawpoll.me/42242013
>>12432339This was an amazing launch. You just knew they were gonna stick it, and on a return to flight nonetheless.
>>12432347i'm nervous bros
>>12432361>You just knew they were gonna stick itYeah I mean all of their landing attempts before (CRS-5, CRS-6) only failed due to mechanical error.
>>12432361It was also the "return to flight" mission after the CRS7 failure so it was a massive deal.
>>12432314He’s done a great job of keeping his state’s economy afloat with aerospace projects. I can’t blame him too much for working in the best interest of his constituents.
>>12432302>I had an idea where they would place 6 SSME’s on the bottom of a shuttle ET, and then place wings and TPS on it. You could put a payload bay in the inter tank region too. Good idea? No, not if that's all you did. If you took the Shuttle ET as a reference structure, modified it to mount RS-25 engines to the ass end inside of a shroud, added stubby X-37 style wings, and lengthened the thing to increase the gap between the two tank bulkheads and make space for a cargo bay, then developed a reusable liquid fueled side mounted booster to strap to either side, then you could make a vehicle that would be a direct improvement to Shuttle but would still be fairly shitty owing to the very large dry mass, bad wet-dry mass fraction, and booster-sustainer design. It would be better to swap propellants for something more dense, go to a more effective TSTO design with a reusable first stage booster, and oops end up with something that converges on the Starship design.

>>12432339The pre-launch was even more interesting than the launch itself. The tour was amazing.
well, I guess that payload has been waiting like a quarter year to get into orbit>>12432447that would be perfect>>12432474>>12432479They're both the fucking same. The true divide isn't right/left but establishment/anti-establishment. Or cares about people/doesn't give a shit.
GUYS
>>12432498>10MILWhy is this a thing?
>>12431304>what's the point of the whole methanol fuel cell and recycling CO2?A lot harder to find carbon outside of Earth than finding hydrogen, so you gotta keep as much of it as you can
>>12432028Watching this thing dance around in the air makes me a lot more optimistic about Starship
>>12432494>The true divide isn't right/left but establishment/anti-establishmentYes, support indiscriminate fire for 2021
>>12432461This would be a shitty outcome although on the upside we would probably get better looking fins (bottom ones look fine, top ones look dumb and thin and idk how they will survive an atmospheric reentry)>>12432476This would be the worst outcome. Everything works, only to lose SN8 because of their temporary landing legs when we could have saved it and put it in a museum>>12432477Wildly, unfathomably based
>>12432500it's the Spanish equivalent of 10k
>>12432361What was experimental in this landing?
>>12432339SpaceX has so much soul
>>12432524at that point landing a booster at all was still highly experimental
>>12432506I would gladly team up with Antifafags if it means we are fighting the establishment, not white people. I’m not even white I just think it’s unfair how they hate whites so much
>>12432524It hadn't been done yet, so it was all experimental, but as >>12432370 said they had basically figured it all out. Also, this was the first return to launch site attempt, which also signaled some confidence that it wouldn't blow up on the range.
>>12432512But that is Portuguese. The Spanish word for thousand is also "mil", since it comes from latin, but it is common to use k as well, and in fact YT shows k in the Spanish version.
>>12432537I’m confident that if CRS-7 didn’t fail, it would’ve been a successful landing. Also that gives me two questions.1) What would have happened if CRS-7 DIDNT fail? Would we still see the “Full Thrust” version? FT was the gateway for the block V and it showed up at just the right time? Or would our version of the FT take longer to appear (v1.1 has gradual upgrades).2) What would’ve happened if SpaceX landed a v1.1 core? Would they try to reuse it?
>>12432545Gosh I prefer not to think about those “what if’s”. Like it’s all fun and games to think about what Elon will do in the future. But it’s also scary to think about what would have happened if falcon 1 worked the very first launch. Maybe they would have flown it for a while. Maybe F9 would not have booster reuse. Maybe elon would then have just gone with a propulsive dragon to land on Mars. I think all the failures just push SpaceX to do better things and I’m glad we are where we are today because they make great products
>>12432524>the first return to launch siteThat only means burning a lot more fuel up there, since it has to do a 180, but everything else should be the same.I actually prefer landings on land vs landings in the barge because the video is shown entirely with no cuts at the best moment.
>>12432551Yeah. Part of me is, for example, sad that C201 blew up, but I’m glad C205 didn’t blow up the ISS on accident. Also I was a dumb teenager when CRS-7 blew up. I fell for the NASA propaganda of Government=Good Private=Bad and I sincerely HATED the Falcon 9. I think the Minotaur-C was my favorite rocket at the time (formerly Taurus). How did you guys get into SpaceX? I watched SES-9 live and from there I fell down the rabbit hole.
>>12432477yeah that was supposed to be drumpf. They stopped that and won't ever let it happen again. Now it's back to the fake as fuck R vs D kayfabe while we get fucked by these psycho shitbag elites
>>12432494
>>12432556Does anyone remember why the first landing was an RTLS? I remember there being a big fuss about destroying people's houses, which was why they wanted to perfect droneship landings before RTLS.

>>12432416They overestimate the logistical improvement of not having to stack two stages (dumb because stacking is something you have to do anyway to install the payload) and the underestimate the difficulty of designing a functioning SSTO ("lol just build TWR >100 engines that get 380 Isp at sea level and 470 Isp in vacuum and mount them to a reusable-TPS coated airframe with a wet mass fraction of 93%, simple as")
