How will COVID-19 permanently change human society?

>> No.12390786

The planet will be destroyed when COVID19 restrictions bankrupt all companies other than Wal-Mart and Amazon. Those two companies will go to war with each other. Eventually both of their militaries will acquire nuclear weapons, which is they quickly deliver to each others' warehouses across the planet.

hopefully renewed sense of optimism in science. hopefully more money will be spent on basic research across all sectors - something that is desperately lacking in the US since the 90s.

Workers will have more say in their jobs when it comes to working from home and sick days. That's about it. Also less faith in science if the vaccine is fucked, even though this blame should be directed at the government.

how did the spanish flu permanently change human society? or the black plague? history is always repeating. we'll probably see some convergence in the future.

jk we shouldnt be comparing those incredibly deadly pandemics to covid 19. a more reasonable comparison would be to the "Asian flu" and "hong kong flu" which share a similar death count. and yet notice how no one remembers them.

In the UK they basically allowed university admittance on 'predicted' or teachers grades. You can imagine how many completely intellectually unsuitable candidates were allowed in this year... They will also be looking at dropping proper exams for next year amongst many grades because of so much lost teaching time. Again, what metrics will be used to get a semi-objective idea of what a student knows or how they might perform but poorly considered, arbitrary teachers opinions. This I say not because I don't trust teachers but because in class sizes as large and varied and where they teach so many kids each day/week/year how on earth can they give a fair, un-compromised, in-depth analysis of each kid?

I really think the repercussions will be huge when all these dimwits will scrape through univeristy because of grade inflation and come out worth shit in terms of skill and knowledge and worse still, with such arrogance that they deserved their little paper validating their 'studies' in the first place.

In theory those people should be filtered out during the job interview process, but that's been subverted too. There's an open war on merit and ability with demands they be replaced by identity and equality of outcome.
Whichever society figures out how to rid themselves of the equality cult will have a huge advantage over those that continue to let it suck them down into mediocracy. It's little different than how some societies get mired in widespread corruption while those who manage to contain corruption into isolated manageable units tend to thrive.

This has been accelerated by the virus response, but I don't know if it's necessarily because of the virus response.
Because of technology relentlessly increasing communication and management efficiency, as the population grows there's less and less need for a highly skilled managerial class. We're also seeing computation take over the more resource-intensive parts of people's jobs. E.g., as an engineer I basically never need to memorize unit conversions anymore, since utilities like MathCAD can readily do those conversions for me.

I think what we're seeing is the gradual conversion of jobs which used to be skill based to something very different. These are ideology jobs. They're essentially marketing positions. The purpose of the person in the ideology job isn't to work. It is to take some of the pressure off of other workers by performing menial tasks, while also generating a climate of ideological enforcement. They are basically mall cops, who exist more for convenience and the atmosphere of security than actual protection. In this case it is the protection of the ruling capitalist ideological complex, which requires the enforcement of the egalitarian politic.

>ruling capitalist ideological complex, which requires the enforcement of the egalitarian politic.
I want to tack on that I'm not some schizo who thinks NWO = black people have equal rights. Egalitarianism is part of the capitalist ideological complex. So are consumerism, mass media, social media, "rental" culture. Consumerism is always the predominant one, egalitarianism is a minor issue but it is why many of these places increasingly see equity as a centerpiece of their job placement.
