You can't. If you're not already one of your "oh I don't even hear it" coworkers you never will be. I worked ina grocery store, then I did inventory for grocery stores, I never got used to it and I never will. I despise that garbage to my very core and started wearing earplugs which obviously aren't even adequate. High dose of phenibut and or kava daily reduces the torment of working in retail environments, but quite honestly, I would never do it again. Never.

I tried all manner of internal and external means of controlling my state and perception, and ultimately, I failed to find an island of lasting peace and stability. Worse still, I can play my own music in my head near perfectly, but external rhythmic sounds are hard to override.

Lastly I'm going to agree with what I assume part of you already thinks. You're below average at suppressing noise and awareness because you're better than them. The fact that they're able to NPC like that is either an incredible skill, or due to being closer to that state at baseline.

I'm in the same boat but this is stupid. I'll tell you the real reason: they, being exposed to it from birth and having no hatred for it, are able to easily filter it out. It becomes mere background noise, a comfort. For us, because we hate it, we can't become used to it to the extent that our brains filter it out.

This just makes me hate it more ofc I shouldn't have to subject myself to potential brainwashing just to not be annoyed by awful trash blaring at me.
