My son who is 16, is very interested in physics and math. I downloaded him a physics textbook wich he oftentimes works on, but I thought it would be a great idea to give him some first hand experience. So is there any chance a 16-years old can get a job in a laboratory or something similiar?

Further information: He goes to school, we live in germany, I know nothing about anything science relatet.

Try to find a program where he can spend some time working in a university lab

You’re better off having him work on independent projects. Go watch some less popular “pop-sci” YouTube channels with people who just go build cool projects for ideas. Turn him into an a person with value like an engineer

congrats OP you're doing your part to guarantee that he doesn't go into physics

>my 16 year old son
aka you but you don't want to get underageb&.
Anyways, I'm a German here as well, I assume he's in tenth grade at the Gymnasium? If yes you might just ask some teacher (if there are any good ones) and because there probably aren't I would probably just stick with the textbooks and maybe youtube videos. If he is interested in electronics etc he might as well built something himself but if he is interested in particle or quantum physics that might get hard. Not sure what you imagine he would do in a math laboratory, it is not like they are interested in 16 year old unable to use google to help with the proof they are working on kek

I've read some anons talk about using textbooks to learn physics. Why do you think it isn't a good idea?

he's suggesting that this will not spark joy

you should just give him the fine man lectures and a copy of kleppner and send him off to his fate

Buy him material to do some experiment at home...

e.g. connect old fridges and heat engine for self sufficient heat pump
or build fusor
build a solar powerplant in backyard from basic parts
get data from ALICE in cern and analyse it on computer

Chemistry is easier to try at home than particle acclerators. But if you manage to get old CRT screen, and... Make a electron gun, or whatever.

OP here. Are there any resoucres that list such homemade things and what I need for them or do I have to look up each individually and do my online research?

Shoot electrons...

I have idea for project now.

Cold plasma weilding machine.

Look it up, cold plasma.

It's highly electrized and ionized ions, which is fucking nice to have later.

I haven't seem list like that.

But always consult somewhere proper for safety...
