Science typically encourages overdevelopment of intellectual skills at the price of emotional and spiritual atrophy.

Yeah well its obvious Darwin became depressed after he found out about evolution and how it contradicted with his previous beliefs in God

>> No.1237113

>>1237092

Actual Darwin was pretty annoyed at how unemotional he had become.

By the end he had trained his brain to be able to instantly recall any scientific work he had read and devoted all his time to SCIENCE. He also noted that he no longer enjoyed poetry or art and regretted it. (although he considered it an acceptable trade off)

someone should tell you that your emotional systems are ever prevalent and critical for dynamic learning.

Emotions are retarded anyway. They lead to irrational decisions.

Well I think if we had no emotions we would have no motivation to learn for one
Also we tend to learn the things that invoked the emotions in us the most

>> No.1237563

Everyone works toward emotional goals. A person with no emotions would not work at all. Logic can tell you how to get places and maybe even where you ought to go, but the underlying motivation - the drive - is from emotion.

Children's shows which encourage you to 'follow your heart' rather than thinking are still peddling bullshit - there is such a thing as being too emotional, but no such thing as being too intelligent - yet it still must be admitted that emotions are necessary, even if they need to be kept under careful watch.

From 1997 on, Damasio et al. demonstrated that patients with VMF or amygdala damage, two areas critical for emotional response, did not learn to behave properly in a particular gambling paradigm. All neurotypical participants in the same study did learn to behave properly in the same gambling paradigm.

In follow up studies, it was found that in similar dynamic game/gamble paradigms, somatic emotional measurements acted as a predictor for normative behavior
