Are you ready to get your rocks off to some hot spacecraft on asteroid action? OSIRIS-REx is going to (probably) succ up some asteroid in 2 hours from this post. In one hour, NASA TV coverage starts: https://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/
Counter thingie available at asteroidmission.org
Simulation of what's happening here:
https://www.twitch.tv/nasa_osirisrex
Will this actually be worth watching, who knows? At best we'll probably get some pics of the asteroid getting disrupted

nope. We actually won't get images for hours after the event. This is because it has to point the high gain antenna away from earth during the sample operation and the low gain antenna has a bit rate of only 40 bits per second. This is enough to tell the team that something went horribly wrong though. 18 minute light lag too.

>> No.12254297

>>12254193
you're reading what you want to read. My point was the exact opposite: I object because the lack of a seal would make those masks ineffective. This is a problem because poor communication has lead the public to believe that virtually anything covering mouth will magically prevent infection which in turn leads to reckless behavior. Not all facial coverings are equal:

https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/5/4/e006577
>The rates of all infection outcomes were highest in the cloth mask arm, with the rate of ILI statistically significantly higher in the cloth mask arm

Performative mask wearing like what they're doing on this stream doesn't help matters, not to mention that looking insane will put people off of the idea entirely.

the problem is that we use 'wifi' already. Microwaves spread out quite a bit with distance, so you need a fuck huge dish to get anything and you don't get much signal so transmission is slow. FYI because they are a public service they have to comply with accessibility standards. One of them is access to deaf people. If they wear masks that aren't clear, deaf people have a much harder time figuring out what they're saying because they can't lip read.that's why they have see-thru masks. The keyword/value pairs provide information such as size, origin, coordinates, binary data format, free-form comments, history of the data, and anything else the creator desires: while many keywords are reserved for FITS use, the standard allows arbitrary use of the rest of the name-space.
