isnt the idea you are speaking about just another way of saying "why dont people do as the elites say?" Because it is not as if we all have the time to learn everything and make informed individual judgments based on science. For times sake, we must defer to the elites for guidance.

In my opinion, this is not appealing. The more and more technical the owrld becomes, the more and more we must rely on others in how to live our lives. We cannot make our own judgments about important things anymore. The only decisions we can make are unimportant ones, like what streaming service to subscribe to.

It's a double sided attack against science.

People think you either believe in absurd shit or you believe everything they tell you in school. It is literally a fallacy where you are forced to believe in either one thing or a contrived alternate.

Science is just a tool to verify which things are more-likely true than others and anybody who thinks it has an established accepted system of beliefs doesn't know anything.

They can't even agree on quantum physics. There is no "absolute" nature to science.

One long term solution proposed was to change science eduction in k-12. Instead of purely emphasizing facts and treating experiments like recipes you follow, education should include science processes. How to do science, how we draw conclusions, how it works.

I have read an article on the subject, the main thesis of which was that anti-science in particular is borne out of a certain unintended "elitism" and detachment from society on the part of most scientists. This subconscious feeling of the masses putatively comes from the desire for scientists to remain free of subjective interpretations and biases when practicing their craft, a stance which differs from most pursuits of Man and therefore from the view the masses have on science itself.
Their solution to the problem is then to remove the "pretense" that scientists are objective, and go straight the other way by exposing one's own biases.
But whoever previously held an anti-science position not out of distrust but out of conviction would only double down once a scientist's bias was not just in plain view, as it often is now, but baked into their writing. The authors counteract this objection by assuming that the former far outnumber the latter. But there's a difference between general skepticism and full blown conspiracy theories. The basic logic behind Anti-vaxxers I can understand in that there is distrust or uneasiness with the components/effects with vaccines. Especially when the people taking it are not witnessesing or firsthand doing the process/research behind it. But the logic behind Flat Earthers (especially in 2020 as opposed to pre-1500s) is outright unacceptable. When everything from evidence derived from scientific research to technology based on that research to products such as food dependent on that evidence/technology all shows flat earth is not valid.
