Yeah, if he’d lost a parent or dog or his gf broke up with him it would be relatable, but killing yourself over an ideology every junior high school misfit comes up with to feel smart and forgets about by high school is just frightening. It would be like killing yourself because your dungeons and dragons character died. Every misfit guy in junior high invented these brainlet style “theories” concurrently and independently, as they’re the sort of Knick knack ideologies that you don’t have to read any books to invent in your head while still allowing you to fool yourself into thinking your smarter than everyone else. Most of these boys “grew out” of that brainlet sized nazi tier arrogance. It’s scary to think some of them just stayed that way forever. Combining his stunted perpetual seventh grader personality with a mental illness diagnosis primed him for suicide. I think it was probably a disastrous attempt to woo a girl that probably sent him over the edge. He did seem to be uniquely obsessed with finding one of those.

This is the practical and active form of that obligation of a Master of the Temple in which it is said: "I will interpret every phenomenon as a particular dealing of God with my soul." ( from Crowley )

as doing sport at some point becomes dangerous, and you need technique and patience same is with mind work and spiritual practices. you push your body too much you get injured, push your mind too much - same.
seems like he pushed his limit, and injured his mind
it's very easy today, with red pills available, no father figures for guidance, a good bunch of hurt feelings and hurt childhood - the hero/warrior archetype takes hold and you end up pushing limits not in your category.

>all he's saying is that he doesn't like himself
Inflammation is part of the complex biological response of body tissues to harmful stimuli, such as pathogens, damaged cells, or irritants, and is a protective response involving immune cells, blood vessels, and molecular mediators.(Wikipedia)
The five classical signs of inflammation are heat, pain, redness, swelling, and loss of function.

Now, there is also inflammation in the psyche.
Healthy people do not have a desire to kill themselves. It is a sign of inflammation when somebody has those thoughts. It might be chronic - lives his lives with those thoughts. might be acute. Anyhow, it needs attention and treatment.

>all he's saying is that he doesn't like himself

>i disagree, he is saying that his psyche is inflamed
he did not say that. whether or not your hypothesis is true, you can feasibly simultaneously not believe in it and not like yourself. just because he says one, does not mean he himself is saying the other. you can't just interpret everything anyone says into being based on the "correct" assumptions

Even the rest of that text,
>Also boosts the case for my personal vow to anti-natalism. I knew my genes were bad but not this bad
shows that he believes that his genes are bad and shouldn't be passed on. If he also believed that the purpose of life is to reproduce, then this would give him, in his eyes, a clear justification in ending his life.

What's more, that guy didn't say he found Mario annoying, he said he found the fact Mario thought he was justified annoying. If my wife was supposed to get some potatoes but the shop is empty, I might say that "[the fact that the shop is out of potatoes] is annoying", but I'm not saying SHE'S annoying.

Actual epistemology does not require pragmatic language if it is not about teaching. Assuming medicine is science or art would require to give the leeway of randomness in it an epistemological value. Very old paradox. Mathematical truth is eternal and always a footprint of its user. Medicine as a science itself suffers from mimicry and its probabilistic pitfalls.

>he said he found the fact Mario thought he was justified annoying
What does this even mean? He felt annoyed, and it was directly caused by the behavior of someone else - and this does not mean that he found Mario annoying? The distinction is meaningless. Your example is a false equivalence unless your wife was the cause of the shop being empty, &c.

Then,
>He talks about how he believes he cannot die, about how he's the main character of the universe and anyone watching the video is just a future iteration of himself. He believes that he'll "jump ship" to a new body when he dies.
So either, A) it's not reasonable to take what a (depressive, psychotic) person says in a video and extrapolate that to the cause of their death and so this argument isn't coherent. Or, B) we can and you really want to argue about whether or not the set of beliefs that a psychotic man holds makes him (in his own opinion) justified. Also, you said "if he also believed that the purpose of life is to reproduce then this would give him a clear justification for ending his life", this is not true if, as you also say, "he believes that he'll jump ship to a new body when he dies". If the purpose of life is to reproduce, and he isn't escaping life, then that doesn't solve the problem.

Never heard of this guy before. I've been watching his videos all day since seeing this thread yesterday.

How much of what he says do you guys think is actually insightful, versus being delusional? I know that's probably a stupid question for various reasons, but much of what he says is making an uncomfortable amount of sense to me, and I'm worried I may be in the process of losing my mind.

It makes a lot of sense until you hear him speak about a topic you understand well that he was completely wrong about. For me this was his video on strong efficient market hypothesis. He put a bunch of money into bullshit penny stocks that were clearly on a downtrend for years, lost it, and then claimed that it was impossible for anyone to predict what a stock would do because all of the available information is priced in.

Montaño was a lucid schizophrenic who was able to take thought experiments about quantum immortality and run with it. The subject matter is so dense and subjective that unless you spent a lot of time studying it seems reasonable, however it's ultimately just one of many ways to interpret quantum mechanics.

It will, this chart is mostly bullshit.

Please consider - How do they know the amount of agony that a person who shoots their self in the head with a shotgun (and died) feels? <- There is no way to measure that. Thus, that data is inherently inferred or made up. Not science.

There are some things he says that don't seem internally consistent. Consider this post for instance:

https://vitrifyher.com/2019/03/20/the-view-so-far/

>Suffering is eternal and no local paradise engineering can change that.
>Suicide is currently my best option since it is the best transformative agent for the contents of consciousness that I can think of.

These statements seem to directly contradict each other. Statement 1 seems to imply that consciousness can't "transform". Period. If it's possible to transform the contents of consciousness by committing suicide, you have to concede that the block universe interpretation of time is at least partially wrong.

this would be easier to approach if you explained what you "got" from his QM series. MW/QI are fringe, wishful and mystical theories where the one doesn't follow from the other. you can't call it "wrong" just like you can't call Roko's Basilisk "wrong", which implies the magical hypothesis that roughly identical versions of you ARE you. no further explanation required. yup. this is DEFINITELY falsifiable. his "Rationality and Science" series is just banal and boring pandering. so all we are left with here is the "Basic Quantum Mechanics" lectures. let's ignore the absolutely amazing MS paint drawings to explain wave functions while claiming "[i'm a genius] and don't have time for better drawings. wait, what? you guys are totally OVERESTIMATING how much i was going to explain QM here... go read a textbook if you want to really understand anything." what did you learn from them? what do you feel like you understand now, that you didn't understand before? for example, his Heisenberg Uncertainty lecture: using only statements he made from his lecture, can you explain to me why trying to accurately measure position leads you to an inaccurate measurement of momentum? it's not difficult to explain. i can do it in a single sentence, or a paragraph to explain how my intuitive explanation is encoded in the fourier transform, or two paragraphs to explain how position is encoded in the idea of the wave function, and what "fourier transform" of the wave function implies. i guess if you're a total retard and thought beforehand that the principle means "woaa we control shit with our minds bro" then this would be a revelation to you (an arcane confusing revelation using made-up jargon)

no wonder his lecture series hemorrhages upvotes as the lectures go on until he starts spouting rick and morty MW conjecture

There's still a >0% chance that you won't die instantly, like if you are one of those retards who blows their face off instead of getting a direct hit on the brain with a shotgun, so the list might be taking that into account. If you get a direct hit on your brain, death should be basically instant.

Unless the bomb is strapped to their heads and blows up their brain, it still might take some time to fully lose consciousness. Antoine Lavoisier got decapitated during the French Revolution, but he still managed to blink for about 30 seconds afterwards. The same might be true for terrorists who strap bombs to themselves and blow themselves up.

It doesn't have to be right next to their brain imbecile. You underestimate how powerful some explosives can be. Even a handheld grenade used in the military could rip the legs off your abdomen and the fragments will pierce your skull. Tell me you can stand right next to an atomic bomb going off and it will take 1.6 minutes for you to die motherfucker!

Yes, "you" aren't someone else. That's my point. What would be ""magical"" is thinking that you are. You aren't making the point that you think you're making here.

>a bit like the "magical" hypothesis that the guy you think you were yesterday - a guy only only roughly identical to the current you - was you?
Woaaah, high iq thread right here, yes, there is absolutely NO difference between two totally discrete entities across spacetime sharing an existence, and being able to experientially teleport around, and a discrete organism growing and dying. No difference bro. Very big brain observations here

What makes you think those differences matter? All that is required to explain why you feel like you are the same person you were yesterday is for you to remember having been that person. Any kind of "further fact" that dries to differentiate whether you ACTUALLY are the same person is postulating something extra and unnecessary. And we wouldn't even say you need to remember *everything* your past self remembers. From outsiders perspective as well, a clone of you that acts like you did and remembers pretty much everything you used to is just as much a continuation of you as you are in general with the passage of time.

Yeah but Antoine probably wasn't in pain or agony.

How the fuck does your brain even process that your whole body was just cut off?

There's no way your pain receptors are even capable of scaling that pain up.

It probably felt like a pinch and a slice, probably felt some pressure for a split second, but then after that, I bet the nerves just went silent right after a Planck second of pressure.

Other way around, for almost the entirety of human history it was only the wealthy who could "afford" to have thoughts like that because they had much better education, plenty of freetime to read and ponder, and were free from the pain of being a working class peasant.
