thank you. I barely passed organic chem but just looking at the structure nothing stuck out as being something only a delicate series of enzymes could produce. Reminded of distillates produced when i worked at an old chemical plant so this makes sense in my small and feeble mind.

If they were showing evidence of something like pic related there would be cause for " concern "

>The bulk of any phosphorus present in Venus’ atmosphere or surface is expected as oxidized forms of phosphorus, for example, phosphates. Considering such forms, and adopting Vega abundance data(the highest inferred value, most favourable for PH3 production),we calculate whether equilibrium thermodynamics under conditions relevant to the Venusian atmosphere, surface and subsurfacecan provide ~10 ppb of PH3. (We adopt a lower-bound adequatelyfitting the JCMT data, to find the most readily achievable thermodynamic solution.) We find that PH3 formation is not favouredeven considering ~75 relevant reactions under thousands of conditions encompassing any likely atmosphere, surface or subsurfaceproperties (temperatures of 270–1,500 K, atmospheric and subsurface pressures of 0.25–10,000 bar, wide range of concentrations of reactants). The free energy of reactions falls short by anywhere from 10 to 400kJ mol-1 (see “Potential pathways to PH3 production”)

>Energetic events are also not an effective route to making PH3.Lightning may occur on Venus, but at sub-Earth activity levels33.We find that PH
3 production by Venusian lightning would fallshort of few-ppb abundance by factors of 10^7 or more. Similarly, there would need to be >200 times as much volcanic activity on Venus as on Earth to inject enough PH3 into the atmosphere (up to~108 times, depending on assumptions about mantle rock chemistry). Orbiter topographical studies have suggested there are notmany large, active, volcanic hotspots on Venus34. Meteoritic delivery adds at most a few tonnes of phosphorus per year (for Earth-like accretion of meteorites). Exotic processes such as large-scale tribochemical (frictional) processes and solar wind protons also onlygenerate PH3 in negligible quantities (W. Bains et al., manuscript in preparation, submitted to Astrobiology as ‘Phosphine on Venus cannot be explained by conventional processes'; also see ExtendedData Fig. 10)

This is a prime example of the shitty sort of studies that get published.
Instead of focusing on one thing and demonstrating it well (existence and concentration of PH3 in Venusian atmosphere), they try to prove extraterrestrial life.
>our study also looked into every possible mundane explanation and pathway for phosphine formation, details about Venusian atmosphere, projections of amounts able to be produced... and eliminated them all

I've heard phosphine smells like garlic.
And if you can actually smell it, you probably already inhaled a lethal amount.
Takes a few hours for the effects to be noticeable, at which point your lungs have been seared and you will slowly die over the next few days.
