What are some good space books? I have been reading the Expanse stuff but it gets pretty gay. Can be either fiction or nonfiction.

I like reading PDFs from real space agencies about various missions, then hitting down my ideas for Space Probes and shit in a little notebook of mine.

It’s autistic but fun. I make sure to make sure the math is right and all that too.

The Culture by Iain M. Banks. Those are the books that Elon read and inspired him to name the droneships "Of Course I Still Love You" and "Just Read The Instructions" (those are names of ships in the second book)
The series is hard sci-fi, very advances but realistic and grounded in real physics. They're complex with multiple protagonists, timelines and flashbacks, and neat politics of a post-scarcity civilisation,
Start with Consider Phlebas and read then in publication order.

Best part is that it curbstomps almost any other scifi. Star Wars and Star Trek are like cavemen compared to the Culture.

How about the Xeelee? I read all four of the “original xeelee” books and then I think that one with the pilot who time travels. It was great but holy shit the Xeelee are fucking insane.

Kind of dumb having two sfg threads going so let's merge this with the bigger thread
