Why does the human heart beat?
Some kind of chemical reaction?
Why can't we reproduce that reaction and make some sort of battery or something powered by a beating heart?

Electrical current. Why would we... use a heart when we already understand electricity? We use a fuel source that we convert from the food we eat to keep the "furnace going". Our heart..

>Electrical current.
Yes but where is that being generated and how?

>Why would we...
Because it's cool.

These cells have the ability to spontaneously produce an electrical impulse.

So for the sake of understanding allow me to le epic fail guy post for a moment why don't we just take these cells, make a battery out of them, and have unlimited free power?

Because I love you even while you sleep.
I throb; I thrum; I remind the universe why we keep secret and true to 'this one'.
Little thud from within, never shall your memory be born of sin.
Empty. Expand. Then fill
Beat once. Beat twice. Then still.

Your dance is one shared by many, and for all to be experienced by more than one.

Beat, beat, beat goes my little heart: my devoted and divine love-drum.

We eventually will, but we do not have the scientific capacity to manipulate cells well enough. The potential is tremendous however - if you want to look at the body from that standpoint then you realize that the efficiency of living organisms is so high that, having been supplied water you have a machine that is capable of running the worlds best, most flexible computational device with its host of attendant periphery systems for 2 weeks without a recharge.

We definitely will tap into this, as it beats any machine can make, but Krebs Cycle-powered machine-organisms are still probably hundreds of years in the future.

This is the real transhumanism though.
