First city on Mars is literally just going to be privately paid Muskville at this rate.
I mean Tesla is already going through the roof, making Elon one of the richest men in the world based on his shares.
And Tesla haven't even gotten to their real master plan which is full self-driving.
Same with SpaceX and Starlink. That's only now about to kick in.
I guess Boring Company isn't gonna rake in that much.
But even though Neuralink is going to be a crapshot, if that were to live up to its ultimate potential at some point, its sales would make smartphones look pathetic. Everyone would need to get a chip in their head or choose to move under a bridge.
So if noone's gonna build a colony on Mars Elon will just be able to do it himself at the rate that this is going.

And then they dump them in the ocean despite being reusable, what a joke. Thank God Elon is exposing these frauds.

I do think the Roman God Mars could become a symbol of an independent Martian government, on their seal etc. With all the farming and protection against the planet, the colonists will have to conquer nature to survive. And if they ever have to fight and win a war of independence it fits as well.
>Virility as a kind of life force (vis) or virtue (virtus) is an essential characteristic of Mars.[31] As an agricultural guardian, he directs his energies toward creating conditions that allow crops to grow, which may include warding off hostile forces of nature.[32]

>The priesthood of the Arval Brothers called on Mars to drive off "rust" (lues), with its double meaning of wheat fungus and the red oxides that affect metal, a threat to both iron farm implements and weaponry. In the surviving text of their hymn, the Arval Brothers invoked Mars as ferus, "savage" or "feral" like a wild animal.[33]

>Mars's potential for savagery is expressed in his obscure connections to the wild woodlands, and he may even have originated as a god of the wild, beyond the boundaries set by humans, and thus a force to be propitiated.[34] In his book on farming, Cato invokes Mars Silvanus for a ritual to be carried out in silva, in the woods, an uncultivated place that if not held within bounds can threaten to overtake the fields needed for crops.[35] Mars's character as an agricultural god may derive solely from his role as a defender and protector,[36] or may be inseparable from his warrior nature,[37] as the leaping of his armed priests the Salii was meant to quicken the growth of crops.[38

I want India to really double down on spaceflight development, they have the economy and population to support it. It's easy to visualize if you're familiar with spherical geometry, and it's really trivial seen on video, but I have no idea how to make such video so I'll try my best to make it as simple as possible in words. TO KEEP EVERYTHING SIMPLE IMAGINE THERE'S ONLY EAST AND NORTH (the other directions will be the same since everything is symmetric).

Imagine to launch pointing north: you'd be going towards the north pole, and the orbital plane of your orbit would slice the Earth perpendicular to the equatorial plane, which is the maximum inclination any orbit can have (90°); doesn't matter where you are in the World, you'll be in a polar orbit. Now imagine to be at the equator and to be pointing east: your orbit from there would be at 0° of inclination and your orbital plane would lay perfectly on the equatorial plane. If you were to start pointing more and more towards the north the inclination of your orbit would rise consequently. So, to recap: pointing east minimum inclination, pointing north maximum inclination. Now the tricky part: by now you can imagine how the orbital plane is defined by where you're pointing at (basically your direction), but it's also defined by two other points:
>your position
obviously: the orbit and the orbital plane must pass through you
>the Earth's center
Because that's what you're orbiting around
That said, now imagine to be still pointing east, but to move your starting position away from the equator: since you're holding east you're at your minimum inclination, but because the orbital plane is defined by both those aforementioned points your orbital plane has to gain the same inclination of your geographical inclination. Since pointing north gives you the maximum inclination, if you were to move away from pointing east you'd be moving towards north, meaning that your orbital inclination has to become higher, which in turn means that your orbital inclination while pointing east is the minimum inclination you can reach.

I'm somewhat reworking my rockets right now, and I'm not working in RSS/RO right now, I think I'm actually going to generate a second completely separate KSP save for that. Here's my contribution to the growing list of KSP Falcon-9 ripoffs. The incredibly unimaginative R-1U, Rocket, No. 1, Configuration U (uncrewed). There will of course be an R-1C, an R-1N (nuclear upper stage), then an R-2, R-3, and probably an R-4 as well, ascending from ten tons, to twenty, then fifty, and finally 100.
The R-1 isn't configured for reuse right now, but it could be easily with the addition of a small propellant reservoir and some grid fins/parachutes. It's got a TWR over 3 so adding more mass to the lower stage won't hurt it much.

Which is why such systems are/were commonly used in rocket weaponry and their descendants. Injection gimballed rockets tend to be smaller, simpler, and lighter than an equivalent rocket weapon with swivel gimbals. Which is great for a military context.

>Or fuck, who knows, it could be the best thing ever.

Fuel is needed in the vacuum of space rather than the atmosphere since propulsion in a vacuum is most efficient. Every heavy first stage used is a potential amount of delta v that could've been used to explore the solar system rather than escaping Earth's gravity.

African Americans were actually the first astronauts. Ancient Wakanda, known to yts as "Egypt" had space travel. The pyramids were actually massive space ships. There are only three left but there used to be thousands. Powered by psychic energy only melanated individuals may produce, they achieved faster than light travel. However, when yts, genetically inferior apes escaped their containment pen, their negative energy blocked the ancient Wakandans power. These yts have wreaked havoc ever since. All of these claims about nasa, von Braun, Musk are just inferior space travel attempts or outright fabrications. In fact, only black people have been to space. They wanted to go to space often in stark contrast to the goals that retards in the government encourage schools to teach children.

Stupid question:
Why don't we use huge radio telescopes like the recently damaged Arecibo radio telescope to recive transmissions from probes in the outer solar system?
Via DSN the transmissions of New Horizons and Voyager 1+2 for example are abysmaly slow.
Sure, the windows for transmission are limited and it can not point to the spacecraft from each position of earths orbit, but the insanely high gain of a 305 m aperture should speed up transmissions significantly in the window where the antenna can be pointed at the spacecraft and free up time in the DSN for other intetplanetary probes.

In addition to that Arecibo could use some additional funding for repairs and upgrades while the 1 MW transmitter coupled to that beast of an antenna could also help with the less important upload-rate.

>> No.12007445

>>12007433
I don't know much about this kind of stuff, but how would building a bigger transmitter improve communication speed. Radio waves travel at the speed of light, no more no less. All you could change is information density of the signal, but at some point the Voyagers might be too outdated to receive it. Am I wrong?

With speed I was refering to bits per second, not reducing light lag.
The issue with the voxagers is that they had to drop the bit/second to the single digit range even when using the DSN because the signal is so weak.
New Horizons is also getting realy slow and IIRC still sending images from months ago.

There's a different between rest mass and having mass due to having energy.

Light has no rest mass (ie a theoretical zero-energy photon with infinite wavelength has zero mass of any kind, and carries no momentum).
Electrons have rest mass, meaning a non-moving electron with no electrostatic potential still has a mass. Same goes for other massive particles. This is due to a coupling with the Higgs field.

If a particle couples to the Higgs field, it has rest mass, and can never be accelerated to light speed. If a particle doesn't couple to the Higgs field, it has no rest mass, and will always move at the same speed light does (not because light is special, it's just the first thing we studied that moved at the speed that zero-rest-mass things move at).

Propellant is needed, yes, but;
>wasting time and money to develop, build, and launch a giant set of propellant tanks into orbit to store propellants sent via rocket launches
does not solve that problem any better than
>develop a single large reusable rocket design, use one of those vehicles as a temporary storage tanker in orbit, refill it with sequential launches of a second (but identical) vehicle, then use that fully fueled orbital Tanker to refill a 'mission' Starship right after it launches from Earth. Afterwards, bring the Tanker back down, because it can launch more propellants and keep returning value from the investment costs of its construction, and of course can get some touch-up refurbishment in a comfortable shirt-sleeve environment on Earth by humans instead of needing servicing from robots or men in suits working in vacuum
In fact the former option of giant single-purpose depot makes less sense from every perspective than the latter option.

Elon is publicly railing against government waste and corporate shekel-farming, and you're calling HIM corrupt. Also, highschool kids do not give a FUCK about small rockets, most don't care or know about anything to do with space at all, but all of the ones that do care only care about the Saturn V, probably Shuttle, probably Falcon Heavy, and maybe SLS. They do not know or care about anything smaller than the biggest because they're kids and kids are basically a more diverse version of retard rednecks that get lift kits installed in their trucks. A suborbital rocket is a joke, I say that as an adult, and to a kid it's literally nothing. You may as well pay for one of those baby's first black powder rocket kits and fire that off to a hundred feet, for all the good a 'suborbital rocket program' would do.

Sure I will, I'll use two densified methalox stages, both reusable and with a dry mass fraction twice as good as your big bulky hydrolox vehicle (which by the way, will also require at least two stages to achieve 15 km/s anyway, you shot yourself in the foot on that one). The difference is that my methalox stages are small enough to not be over-encumbered by a TPS coating, so I can aerobrake to extend my delta V budget's utility, and I don't need a high performance helium cryocooler, radiators, and sunshield to avoid having my fuel boil away in a week.
