What was your childhood mathematically related mnemonics? Or I guess if you just have any that stand out to you.

Mine favorite one was "I ate and I ate until I was sick on the floor"

>> No.11977762

eight and eight went out the door and came back in with 64.

My teacher would humm "pi dee pi dee piiiiii dee" while making circle motions with her arms to remind us the circumference of a circle I guess.

SOHCAHTOA is the only one I can remember to be honest.

>> No.11977919

My favourite is:

>Three point one four one five nine two six five three five eight nine seven nine three two three eight four six two six four three three eight three two seven nine five zero two eight eight four one nine seven one six nine three nine nine three seven five one zero five eight two zero

It's how I remember the first few digits of pi.

This because I can't be assed to remember basic trig so I just rely on mnemonics

>> No.11978161

Just Foil, pemdas (please excuse my dear aunt sally), and sohcahtoa like the other anon said. Other than that it was just memorizing formulas. Guess the quadratic formula "song" really stuck with me too. Man, what a stupid way to learn rather then just understanding intuitively.

The fun part of mathematics is that you DON'T need mnemonics, only to know certain axioms and markings and derive the rest.

>> No.11978444

>>11977712
I didn't use any mnemonics for actual school maths because I'm not a brainlet, but I do remember one useless meme trick that to multiply any 2-digit number by 11, you just add the two digits together and shove the result in the middle
i.e.
11x34=3 [3+4=7] 4= 374
11x72= 7 [7+2=9] 2= 792
11x93= 9 [9+3=12] 3 = 1023
It's useless because it's easier to just multiply by 10 and then add one more, but still interesting how that works

>> No.11978472

>>11978444
I think that math trick is more useful for understanding how cryptography works. Cool meme

is that the one where you multiply by 10 then subtract the number?
I do it that way

>[math]x\cdot 9[/math]
[math]x\cdot 10 - x[/math]
>[math]7\cdot 6[/math]
7 14 21 times two is 42
>7x8
memorized as 5678
>squares
memorized

now my dirty secret is that I have not memorized anything else
or rather I know the sequences. I do not know what 7x5 is for instance.
Sometimes I start at 25 and then do two more fives for 35
other times I go 7 14 21 28 35 in my head

basically everything is such a sequence
8x6 is 8 16 24 *2 -> 48

if the numbers are larger than 10 I might drop my sequences and instead start looking for factors or multiplying by the closest 10th and subtracting or something like that though.
But still, [math]13*17 = 13*20 - x = 13*10*2 - x = 260 - 13*3 = 260 - 13 - 13 - 13[/math]

The digits of pi sung to the first verse of "Seasons of Love". I guess it was just an earworm I picked up on the radio:

couldn't even complete the verse
