Has there ever been any psychological studies on why some people only use music as background noise for what they are doing such as driving a car or having a party but other people listen like music so much they can just sit there and listen to music?

Like do some people feel music more than others?

I get really triggered by people who know a song for years but don't know its lyrics or have no idea what the song may be about.

Similarly, I hate it when people say "this album only has one good song," which to me sounds like "this painting only has one nice painted corner," as if you can plug the produced work of art apart.

I know I'm a bit autistic that way.

That's me. I can't do anything else. I prefer to listen to music while doing nothing.

>why some people only use music as background noise
I use twitch streams as a background noise at work.

Add and autism lead to this. Too much silence is a distraction. So you listen to music to avoid letting your mind go off in a tangent. It's s cope really.

I think of it as "graph paper." The 4/4 beat gives you something to plot your thoughts against

It depends on the artist you are listening to. Also with the rise of single drops on itunes and spotify, album synthesis is a luxury. I only listen to albums, but I know that many convergences are only apparent.

Songs from an album are like chapters from a book, they make little sense in isolation. An album is a snapshot of the artists style and mindset at the time. A single song - while more coherent in itself than a chapter of a novel - only captures part of the artwork

a lot of albums are literally just a couple of songs thrown together without any larger theme in mind. if you want a book analogy, think of a collection of short stories.

You’re not autistic, you’re retarded. Plenty of songs are meant to stand alone, specially in pop. The “Now” music series is probably on their millionth album and it’s just a lazy compilation.

the second one is really dumb, a better analogy would be a hall with a bunch of different paintings and only liking one of them

they can be, but there is no rule that says they always are
