Stuff that fucks up my brain:

-Porn usage
-Social media scrolling
-Sugars mixed with fats
-Always having music or stimulus in background

What else? Why does this happen to us?

Wrong. Too little manganese / too much iron screws the dopamine receptors.
Copper is needed for using dopamine, so it accumulates, rises to unnatural levels, but cannot be used.

Dopamine is responsible for enforcing reward seeking behaviour, it's not the reward itself. You can't become addicted to it, it is what causes addictions. If your dopamine receptors were 'fried' by which I assume you mean desensitized, then you would find yourself unmotivated to engage in pleasurable activities, but you would find those activities no less pleasurable.

our brains are supposed to get screwed up doing incentives...

the self-improvement related thing is to focus on the things that bring us success, and avoid doing stupid wasteful things

it can help to leave off hungry('edging?' No Coomer! Well, sort of... that's the general idea, if you can apply thinking outside of your multiple daily fapping) , rather than always satisfy to the point of mindless channel-surfing boredom, to be process-oriented rather than results-oriented, and of course the fundamentals; Sleep, Routine, Diet

There's no such thing as frying a receptor. You do not release dopamine by staring at something, no, not even porn. You release it in anticipation that you're either going to eat, or you're either going to cum. The only windows of actual dopamine release across your day are the 20 minutes before each meal, and the 20 minutes of jerking off and opening tabs. Video games, movies, passive staring at porn pictures on 4chan - all of that has zero effect on it because there's no anticipation towards a defined goal, rather, a nihilistic drifting through the day so it ends faster. Addiction to these activities does not exist and you're conflating the act of finding it novel and interesting, i.e your desire for exploration as a normal healthy male, with the state of an actual addiction that's supposed to make you brain repeat it tomorrow because you got a caloric or reproductive benefit. You got neither.

I'm interested.

I get lots of copper from unsweetened cocoa, and lots of iron from grass fed red meat. I also used to do a bag of baby spinach a day and it made me feel way better. Could this be linked to manganese?

try getting into idle games, and try playing 2 at the same time, then slowly insrease the number.
Go to a casino with money you can't really afford to lose. Then win.
Have 3 browsers open with 2+ windows for each and 10+ tabs on at the same time in each window.
And be confined in the same place while the terror from the deep lurks outside for enchanced effect.

How do you explain a 40-year old who's been on FB for over 10 years and still constantly falls into the depression it causes her? How do you explain the soap opera effect, where women would even let their children get hurt just to catch what was going on? How do you explain "gaymers" dying with ruptured intestines while playing games on a computer? The dopamine hit was clearly greater there than the pain from their insides.
Nihilistic drifting, yeah. That's the withdrawal symptoms.

I started taking L-Methyfolate a few years ago as a supplement. It seems to have helped me some. My mood and emotions are more regular. I sleep better (but still poorly). Before I was basically non-functional from bouts of serious depression and terrible sleep that left me falling asleep standing/driving. I subsisted that way for years, but since starting with l-methyfolate have been able to finish a degree. Not sure if just a coincidence.

That being said, though I don't have serious bouts of depression anymore like I used to most of my life, I do sometimes get overcome with anxiety with things are too stressful or overwhelming. Additionally, I am less sensitive to positive emotion, too. Not just negative emotion, but all emotion. I don't get the same deep feeling of empathy or deeply moved experience from music. Sometimes certain songs or shows I went to were nearly transcendental, I now feel cut off from this energy. Additionally, I'm less interested in sex and romance. I rarely feel lonely except when I am extremely stressed.

Did I fry my brain by taking a supplement/medical food to help treat my depression, /sci/? Or am I just getting old? Age 28 if it matters. Been using l-methylfolate for about 3 years. It was a slow, long term, and subtle change.
