Light has no mass.

Light is attracted by gravity to a black hole.

Gravity is a force between mass.

Which part is wrong?

Discuss.

Wave/Particle duality.

Acts as both therefore has a momentum.

It can't be stopped so I dunno if it has rest mass but it has a momentum, and that can be shown by experiment.

They have 'relatvie' mass. Also, photons aren't affected by gravity. They just follow the null-geodesics.

It does not have rest mass only relativistic mass. If you want to learn more, read something about relativism/Einstein

I have read bits and pieces I just don't get into it cause I suck dick at math and the like so to actually get the physics I'd have to give myself a crash course.

That's pretty much what gravity is in general relativity.

>> No.1190870

gravity is a force that bends spacetime, the deformation of spacetime causes objects to attract
that's why light can't escape from a black hole

>> No.1190871

>>1190857
Then I suggest you read a "for dummies" book about Einstein. They don't cover the math behind it but they explain the principles.

How can a black hole emit x-ray's if nothing can escape?

>> No.1190882

Yeah but that's the thing, I could learn relativity easy, it's just I detest math it's just too raw, I don't like it cause it feels abstract and unapplied where as physics on the other hand I can grasp quite well.

Just need to start pulling out my old books and reteach myself the symbols and base equations and I'll be jamming

>> No.1190890

>>1190873
black holes don't emit x-rays
they emit hawking radiation which is virtual particles that get separated on the event horizon

if they emit x-rays that because of the gasses that spin around the black hole but have not yet crossed the event horizon

Gravity is more than just a force between masses. Duh, thats the whole point of general relativity.

1.) Masses bend spacetime, create a curvature
2.) Light moves on a null-geodesic

Therefore, the presence of mass alters the trajectory of light.

Quite simple, isn't it?

Please stop mixing up the terms "mass" (= rest mass) and "relativistic mass". Also, stop using relativistic mass altogher please, speak of momenta.

Sincerely,
