Fun thing about infinity is that it doesn't exist. You cannot chop something up into an infinite amount of bits. There's a finite amount of bits. Also if you lose an atom off of a whole, it's generally still considered whole. If you add an atom back to a whole, you still generally consider it a whole.

Consider the following:

If you start writing out the decimal expansion 0.999999... you will keep writing 9's for an infinitely long time. Since it takes infinitely long time to write all the 9's, you will never have time to write '1'. Therefore 0.999... can't be equal to 1.
