They're just basic life support suits, they've got air circulation and heat management systems, and are made up of a fire-retardant material. They aren't designed for spacewalks or even really any kind of EVA. They will preserve the life of the wearer if they're exposed to vacuum, but aren't designed for anything else.
>>11724279
If I had the ability, time and money to design a suit I probably would have gone with like a combination of the new NASA and Boeing suits. The NASA suit's helmet is still top tier functional aesthetic and I still would rather trust a good old fashioned helmet over the Boeing suit's zip hood. That being said, the zip-open design is really useful for donning and doffing the suit more easily so I'd integrate that. SpaceX having all thermal regulation and air supply lines routed through a less obtrusive thigh port is also a nice piece of design so I'd lose the classic belly lines in favor of that. Leave the limbs somewhat baggy like the NASA suit for plenty of movement freedom and keep the torso tight like the Boeing suit to reduce the overall bulk.
Let a competent and reserved clothing designer at it afterwards to make it easy to fit to multiple sizes and shapes of people and clean it up so it doesn't look dumpy and then call it a day. Give it the matte white/charcoal black color scheme because it's the most based aesthetic.

Form following function is a timeless and universal law of nature. In fact, the 80's are a great example. The automakers had just started using rudimentary Computational Fluid Dynamics, and the boxy shapes they got made for better aero. Better than the hand-designed cars, that is. But it was an improvement, and it looks (looked) cool because of it.

Yeah, the unicolor boots and gloves look a bit off, I'd prefer they both be black if I were in charge of the suit colors. The helmet is also weird, there is definitely merit in the design, it's much lighter and more compact than a conventional bucket, it's not a several pound weight on you for the hours you have to sit around prelaunch and then a few hours more sitting in the capsule during checking and fueling, but I wouldn't trust it to protect my head meat if it were to bang into something. I'd rather be a bit less comfortable physically but have the mental comfort of knowing there's a hard shell around my head.

At this point I'd say it would be more efficient to just use a hard plastic cup and let the joints have a little bit of air pressure, probably wouldn't need more than a quarter bar. If you can eliminate most air pressurization needs but retain most of the reduced bulk of the counterpressure suit it's still a vast improvement over current space undergarments.

Placing the engine at the front is intentional with electric vehicles too independent of the "customers are used to it being this way". It offers maximum safety for the people inside to have a large crumple zone at the front and if you have that you might as well throw the engine in there too. But the simple fact that people think that's how a car should look like probably means that's how they will look like for a long time.
You might really see that change when autonomous vehicles become common and people want to get a "lounge" model with back facing front seats

Not that anon, but he's not entirely wrong. The CAFE standards under Obama were changed. In order to meet the higher fuel economy standards, cars had to become more aerodynamic. Radical change is difficult. Both for customer acceptance and for the designers to breakaway from the constraints they've always known. The need for a crumple zone will keep some space in the front between the passenger compartment and the rest of the world but not necessarily in the current shape. Lounge type cars in autonomous vehicles are a good possibility. That could especially be true if human driving become rare which leads to lower crash rates which in turn mean less need for crumple zones. Then you could have all manner of configurations.

The first guy on project manhigh had the pressure seal on his glove go bad while he was riding up to the edge of the atmosphere to test the survivability of bailing out from that altitude.
His hand swelled up and turned beet read, and he lost some feeling, but he didn't bother reporting it until after he landed because it wasn't worth scrubbing the mission.
Also pressure suit failures in test chambers and other high altitude flights.
They're usually designed with multiple seals too, so even if you do have a breach in your suit, its contained in sections.
The real neat stuff is the skin suits based off compression bandages for burn victims that they're playing with. All you need is to keep the head and chest pressurized so your lungs work, but the rest of your body can be exposed to hard vacuum without anything worse than blood blisters where it bunches up around the joints.

Investors care about profits and returns. Dipshit /fa/gs don't have any money to invest in anything therefor it's pointless to pander to dipshit mongrels

>The suit is to small to have any kind of internal fan nor any cooling garment, unlike an EVA suit. The wearer can probably dial up the air flow a little from the life support umbilical without fully pressurizing.

I found the answer to this question. The umbilical in addition to being able to supply life support in an emergency also provides regular air cooling.

Did anyone figure out if these are iPads?

Finally found a quote. Yes it is an iPad. Not sure what model.

>BYRNE: The focus of this mission will put Hurley's test pilot skills to use. Named Demonstration Mission 2, Hurley and his crewmate Bob Behnken are tasked with flying SpaceX's Crew Dragon for the first time. The duo will put the sleek capsule to the test, flying it using a touch screen and iPads before it docks with the International Space Station.

He's right to a degree, a lot of investment is about brand and passion. That's one of the reasons tech companies like Apple are often overvalued in the market place.

Guy doesn't have a ball defender. Girls have clit defenders. This doesn't make much sense.

Think about this for a second. The girl is wearing not just female trousers (tights) but a second layer of blue shorts. Kirk's trousers are pretty tight, but his top is waaaaaaaay higher than the girls top. Isn't Kirk showing off much more bum than the girl?

>These aren't real spacesuits, right? I just saw the dude slip his glove off like a normal one. And the two-part design? What's going on here?

They’re pressurized suits like fighter pilots wear, not EVA suits.

Being a really good test pilot is way more important than being in great shape
