Why is Terence Tao considered such a genius? He's a second-rate mathematician.

He has proven no big theorem. Made no huge contribution to mathematics. Pretty much all he has done is generalize some theorems other mathematicians proved (that is his biggest achievement, the Green-Tao theorem, and he didn't prove it himself, he needed Green to help him). He learned calculus at a young age, because his parents knew some mathematics and taught it to him, and got a PhD when he was very young. For as much as you all mock Jacob Barnett for being considered a genius for doing calculus at 12, you worship Tao for doing the EXACT same thing. But precociousness does not compare to actual genius. Doing something slightly earlier than others means almost nothing, especially when you had studyasian parents force you to do it.

>Andrew Wiles solved Fermat's last theorem and he is unknown to anyone but mathematicians
>Perelman solved the Poincare conjecture
>John Milnor, so many contributions
>Serre, the number theory GOD
>fucking John Tate

Tao has done nothing in comparison. And yet brainlets consider him the "greatest living mathematician"? What a joke. The truth is you only think that because he did calculus at 12 just like Jacob Barnett. Because that's Tao's greatest achievement. And this is why Tao says IQ doesn't matter. It's a cope because he LACKS THE IQ to be truly great. He will always be a second-rate, celebrity mathematician worshiped by brainlets.

For some reason people think child prodigies are bound to be revolutionary geniuses when they grow up.

The truth is developing early is major disadvantage for top-tier intelligence.

Yeah but he did it all at six years old under the direction of Erdos

exactly, quality over speed
prodigies are wasted potential because they couldve ended up creating groundbreaking theories like Voevodsky but early development stifles them.

Who cares what some minimal relational identity has or has not achieved?

If all you are looking for is a fan group or to engage in politicking then aren't you just a little bitch looking for a Master, OP?

Yup. I actually tried to slow my development to rewire my brain for a specific type of problem I'm working on. I'd say it worked.

Paul Erdos was strange. I wouldn't call him a great teacher worthy of a genius.
