Joes videos are always well researched and he never claims to be an expert in any of the fields hes talking about. I think his videos are as scientific as popsci content can get. Note that he talks about a broad range of topics and uploads at least twice a week.

I too have a sense that he used to be funnier and more genuine. His videos feel a bit forced nowadays but I understand he has to make a living. I watch his videos though, his videos are definitely not that bad - compared to other youtubers too - and he is not overly pretentious

His cornball comedy pauses take a bit of getting used to, but his generally sane pace & cognitive style more than make up for it. It's also a plus that he does his own research and consequently demonstrates steady improvement in his judgment about the reliability sources, and the probability of inferences generally. The debunking side of things is nicely built-in, without distracting emphasis.
