First question is what kind of "IQ" tests you took. The one administered in schools is hardly an IQ test, whether in coverage of all subcategories (spacial, numerical, verbal), nor in consistency or compliance with actual IQ guidelines. They more often than not simply cover the competency of the child in relation to what has been taught to him.

The probabilistic nature (the fact that time-dependent gaussian distributions are gaussian themselves) guarantuees that some may achieve a great in- or decrease in IQ scores. The small shifts that however occure in most cases are negligible. By the time, a person reaches 7, the trajectory of his IQ is statistically more or less fixed. This is purely said in terms of statistics. One individual may actually defy it. You can train for IQ tests and increase your score but those increases are seldom permanent -> Flynn effect.

The whole thing is and until now I only spoke very technically of the whole IQ thing that in the real life, I've seen many people ruining their minds simply by making poor choices. Ruining in the sense that they became visibly slower and duller. When I say that IQ is fixed, it only means so in a purely statistical sense. A better expression would be that it seems to be fixed. We know that all behavioral traits are to some degree genetical but there is a lot of interplay that statistics can't possibly account for. Maybe you developed faster than other children. At least that's what we see in East Asian kids. But then again these kids get pushed in a way that is rarely seen in other groups. There is also reaction time, reaction time correlates with IQ scores so how fast you react to something already biases your actual IQ score even if reaction time has nothing to do with intelligence ultimately. IQ-ists love speaking of the undeniable truth of IQ scores simply because of its statistical implications and I mostly tend to share the opinion. But statistical results especially if they're cover a wide array of observations with tons of people have increasingly little significance for an individual.

Comparing results intergenerationally they are actually falling.


The Flynn effect stopped in the 80-90s, currently it is reversing in several countries.

The same with height, whites are not getting taller as before, it has stabilized.

The tests conducted by military are the most reliable in that regard. They have a ton of data to see what works or not since they let everyone who applies undergo some form of intelligence testing (often before the psychological interview, so they also have data for people who get rejected).

The fact that tests are renormed every year doesn't mean IQ isn't going up. (FSIQ is going up, slowing down/stopping in the West, and g is going down)
