I never actually cared about this nonsense but is it really going to spread to the majority of the world??? Are we actually going to experience the scenes from every zombie movie ever???

>> No.11438684

>>11438660
Its going to spread anon. You're not going to see a zombie movie enacted here because, as of yet, we have no reports of the infected rising from the dead and attacking others.
But yeah, it IS going to to spread to pretty much all the world at the current rate. We have no reasons to believe that its quarantinable at this stage given that only china had any luck with that, and that required Fascism that the western world is just too scared to use (You try and lock up a city in new york or california and you'll have every single black in the country screaming that its a racist plot to kill them all).

Our current hopes are that its spread can be slowed long enough for us to develop more effective methods for treating it and preventing pneuomatic death from it: A vaccine is AT LEAST 1-2 years away, so that's not happening in time to prevent this.

The good thing is, the vast majority of people are barely going to be affected more than the flu or a heavy cold, with some even being light cold level. The problem is that its STILL going to kill a large number of those with medical issues and the elderly, and 1-2% is still fucking large (For contrast, the flu kills less than .02% of those infected in the US).

Our biggest fears is that it will either mutate into a more deadly form before we can understand how to treat it, or that death numbers we have so far are unreliable (Iran for example is posting absurdly high death rates compared to china)

Didn't something like 10-20% of ALL HUMANS contract the swine flu during the last pandemic? I'm also seeing conflicting information about the severity. That one WHO report summary (from the situation in China) ended up stating that the vast majority of all positive-tested patients ended up showing symptoms; compared to a normal or swine flu which can have something like 30% asymptomatic progress. Also, swine flu has an incubation period of a few days, whereas covid-19 can be up to two weeks - which will clearly help spreading it.

I'm supposed to have two business flights in the next 3 weeks, California and Europe. I'm doomed, am I not?

b-but the prez boomers voted in told them it was a hoax!
this could honestly be devestating for republicans. a large portion of boomers dying off (and elderly whites are their foundation right now) would drastically lower their voterbase.
It could be bad in the short term as well if their bedrock stays home instead of voting due to fear of dying, while younger voters (Who lean heavily to the left) go out and vote since they're not scared of catching it and dying.

Coronavirus isn't new. 10-15% of colds are caused by the Coronavirus. Then there's a plethora of rarer cold viruses that account for a few %. The rest are Rhinovirus.

We've been dealing with this thing for centuries already. I find it hilarious that they've panicked so many people over the common cold.

And no, we aren't heading towards the apocalypse.

COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus, meaning that it's a type of coronavirus we've never seen before. It appears to be far more contagious than previously known forms of coronavirus. Even if it is less lethal than other types on a per capita basis, it being more contagious will still result in it killing more people in addition to making it more difficult to contain.

>with a huge number of asymptotic carriers

The key word being asymptomatic i.e. it doesn't affect them or at most causes a mild cold/illness the likes of which most people experience every year anyway. Pity the elderly and those with comorbidities if anything - those are who the containment measures are there to protect. The vast majority of the population is going to handle it fine if they get it. You seem to ignore the fact most people will get better on their own of those who did contract it and displayed symptoms (who were not elderly or with comorbidities).

What i'm worried about is that this may be a permanent thing.
We can't get a vaccine for the common cold due to how quickly it mutates, and its possible that could happen for this one too. and that means basically another flu every year that we can't protect against AND nukes our age expectancy back down to 50s levels.
