What would cause an alcohol-related cerebellar degeneration not to be visible on an MRI or CT Scan?

Suppose you were to walk, and your motor functions in general were to function, like you were extremely drunk 24/7 and suppose you were actually sober lol. Then suppose you were to see a neurologist who orders a ct scan and then an mri and is baffled when both are clear. Is it still plausible that the alcohol is to blame? How likely is it that if it were alcohol, it would not show up in a ct scan or mri? If you had 1,000 such people, for how many would the reason for the problem not be apparent in an mri?
