Remind me again why there is total and absolute madness over a disease with a death rate of barely 0.9% on healthy individuals and a heart attack has a fatality rate of 14% and no one gives a flying shit?

>> No.11420158

Heart attacks aren't contagious. If they suddenly started doing the rounds in the population you can bet there'd be panic.

Also, while a 1% mortality rate (assuming that's accurate) might not seem high, I've missed a 90% accuracy move twice in a row enough times in RPGs to know that it's not a dice roll I want to gamble my life on any more times than I already do.

Cause there's no cure for coronavirus. This is the biggest outbreak of an infectious disease that has the potential (not matter how slim) to end the world since pre-industrial times. It's not really that scary but it's a significant event.

>he thinks we have the real death statistics from china
Not only that but please keep in mind that so far the death toll has been kept at bay because medical infrastructure and medicine stocks have been able to keep up with the spread. This is a disease that requires huge amounts of treatments (lots of medicine per patient) to momentarily cure a patient. Said patient after cured, can potentially keep spreading the virus as well as get re-infected in which case the treatment required is bigger.
As the spread stays on its exponential growth, it will put a strain and eventually collapse the medical infrastructure and that's when the kill count will sky rocket.
Failure to contain it within china means that when that happens, foreign aid will be denied as the rest of the countries will struggle with the virus.

Most importantly, the virus is alive and spreading exponentially, that means that the chances it has of mutating into something worst also grows exponentially.

Think about it like this anon:
If it was nothing, russia wouldnt have closed its borders in such a resolute and quick way. You can say whatever you like about the russians but they know the modus operandi of the communist propaganda and they dont fall for that shit.

CFR isn't actually a fixed number, Wuhan shows the number can get much higher if the spread gets overwhelming.
Which is likely, considering how contagious this virus is.

Dude. Its exploding in Iran and italy right now. That's why people are freaking out. it got "out" and its spreading fast now. And Iran's death rate is utterly horrendous.

The reason people are scared now is that its only a short hop and skip from the rest of the world into us now. and There's indications that people picked it up in italy and brought it back to the US.
