I've been posting on here for ten years and since my formative years which might have been a mistake. The main thing it taught me was how to argue in a completely unproductive and fallacious way by systematically using dishonest rhetoric.
4chan has also made me instinctively distrustful of anything "popular" or "commonly accepted" and now I assume that anything I hear from a conventional source is either partly or totally dishonest.

Since there are no personal attacks here, and no identity to your opinion, all that matters are your arguments. It strips the "you" out of your opinion, and everybody else judges whats left. What you say here has to actually have substance and arguments, so it forces you to find them. I have a friend irl who has a different political stance than me, and after arguing enough with him i realized that he actually has nothing to say. His speech is always empty. Life is harmful up until you grow a pair to stand for others or submit to others. The submission bit can be hard when so many people demonstrate a willingness to 'discard' and standing is difficult because there aren't many good examples in one life of why doing so is a good thing.

I've only been shitposting for 2 years but lurking for moar and truly view 4chan as what if we were all people locked in the same cosmic room and could never escape it or be exempt from other shitposters opinions. I wouldn't say 4chan is exempt from self-moderation. It's more subtle, but through memes and "board culture", as well as taking into account whichever trends the board you're posting on has integrated recently (which ties in to the former two), there effectively are ways to make your posts more sympathetic and accepted by the community.
You can have one specific opinion, but write it in a way that will have people reply with nothing more than "reddit spacing" or whatever else. You can also deliberately include nods to ideas the community finds attractive at the time while saying the exact same thing, which in turn will get you replies along the lines of "based" and the like.
Just because there isn't an upvote system here doesn't mean this place is devoid of trends and specific behaviors that make some posts or opinions more visible and easily accepted than others.

I can try to tldr it but I read it in verbal form many times before I *got it*. You need to have personal experience that verifies it to *get it*. But basically its that balance is always maintained, for every negative a positive.
