no, time is not a thing. Space-time is a thing and if time moves backwards, space would fold into itself in impossible ways. Faster than light travel and backwards time travel are the same thing and are made impossible by the same limits.

Not this again. I'm not saying time travel is possible, but in case it involves wormholes for example it's not possible to travel to a time before the creation of the wormhole. So that kind of time travel would be totally compatible with there being zero time travelers in our time. Second, there's no reason to assume that anyone in possession of this technology would be interested in our time. It's also likely that if it's possible, it's also extremely costly and difficult. Appealing to the absence of time travelers, at best we can rule out relatively easy and inexpensive time travel being available in the near future to humans - if we are still similar enough in nature and interests it's safe to assume somebody would be interested in traveling to our time - then again the invention of time travel would realistically imply such radical technological development anyway that even that is still questionable. And only the type that allows traveling to a period before the technology was invented.

Well anon
Exceeding the speed of light is already out of the question taking into account the laws of physics so Tachyons and etc are out
Wormholes would collapse under their own gravity as soon as they form, and exotic matter to stabilize the wormhole isn't even confirmed to exist so I wouldn't rely on that
Cosmic Strings are not viable and would require too much energy to move the colossal galaxy sized crevices in the universe to near light speed to even get it in a position where time travel theoretically could work, and you'd need a ship capable of withstanding the journey among other things.
No time travel theories to the past are applicable to humans and even if they were we probably wouldn't be able to survive it or it would take too many resources to be practical.
Traveling into the future is more theoretically viable but even that would take too much energy (You'd have to move at near light speed)

>> No.11412164

>>11412148
>Exceeding the speed of light is already out of the question taking into account the laws of physics so Tachyons and etc are out
our laws of physics don't rule out tachyons, though there's no reason to think that they exist either - in that sense they're like wormholes. what they do rule out is accelerating normal (non-tachyonic matter) to or above light speed.

unless you think the possibility of "causality violations" rules tachyons out but then you could just as well dismiss time travel to the past without going to the detail you went.

>All im saying is that the existence of Tachyonic particles with imaginary mass and whose speed constantly exceeds c is not consistent with the laws of physics
The reason superluminal speed is normally impossible is because you need infinite energy to accelerate matter with normal mass to that speed. But that doesn't apply to tachyons because of their imaginary mass.

>> No.11412221
