Just finished my first undergrad lab paper. 46 pages, 6500 words, 42 unique equations, 25 figures, 10 tables, and 25 references.

Please unenroll immediately.

Be happy for me anon, I worked really hard to make a good report.

I hope you're not referencing wikipedia

And nothing of value.

I've referenced from my professors notes, other colleges, Bsc/Msc papers, and undergrad/grad textbooks.

That's exactly how I feel. It's probably worthless.

You don't have to reference stuff that is concidered common knowledge, i.e. most theory you are taught in undergrad. At least, that is how it was for us.

>> No.11390142

>>11390120
lab reports are always worthless, it's just an exercise. The theory and experimental proof to these kinds of experiments are usually knowledge that was already well known 100+ years ago

just like my shitposts on sci per day

>> No.11390250

>>11390132
I brought in a lot of ideas that we have not yet discussed in class, so I think not referencing would have been unproffesional. The most basic stuff I did not reference.

The main reason I decided to go far and beyond what my buddies did is to see the difference in grading. I want to see if the extra effort will actually make a difference.

Yeah it's gonna piss me off because you're making me grade 46 pages of bullshit when I should be doing research.

>> No.11390355

>>11390332

this.

your instructor is going to specifically request that you never, ever do this again because your tryhard is entirely wasted on a fucking paper written for an undergraduate lab class. papers are published in actual journals with far less extra bullshit than that. part of being a good scientist is being able to be succinct, something you have failed to demonstrate here

Why become a teacher if you hate teaching so much?

>> No.11390373

>>11390360

>t. someone who has never had to grade anything

he doesn't hate teaching, he hates grading fucking papers, and there is no teacher who doesn't in science. it's just a part of the job and when people go intentionally above and beyond the scope of the assignment for the sake of stroking their own ego (especially in cases like this when it's outrageously overdone) it wastes their time, taking away from time they could have spent teaching someone something in office hours or paying attention to their research students, and creates resentment in them for that student

if you were asked to move 150 lbs of rocks by hand from one place to another to be used in a stone pathway, for instance, would you move 1500 lbs of rocks instead just to show that you could so that your coworkers could move them all back and marvel at your efforts?

wasted effort, nothing accomplished, everyone pissed off

My proff said 30-40 pages is what he expects from a good lab report, I don't think I will be in trouble.

what class is this, exactly? if it's not a senior-level thesis-preparation or analytical, organic or biochemical research-like stand-in class then your professor is doing you dirty

also, what was the experiment you did that you are writing a report on?

Don't want to be too specific as I don't want the elite hackers of 4chinz to get me, but I go to a top 5 school and study chemical engineering.

>> No.11390436

>>11390399

that's the most unfounded concern i've ever heard on a board with so few posters and where everyone is self-obsessed

generally describe the scope of the course without naming it then, and at the very least tell me what the experiment you're doing is or fakenews my dude
