my school's hyperloop team is big dumb. I would know, because I'm on it. Our motor had transmission fluid leak into the high voltage connectors the other day

If Musk can deliver on the original numbers he promised in the hyperloop paper then it's a big deal. Except ansys ran some simulations and it looks like he probably can't deliver.

The key thing to remember about the hyperloop is that the planned partial vaccuum is pretty much the same as Mar's atmosphere. Ol'Musky's companies are all about setting up shop on the red planet.

generally high voltage crap works better when it's under oil. Transmission oil's probably some mineral oil derivative, so the dielectric strength's probably pretty decent as long as it don't have tiny bits of metal in it. I bet you ain't even using proper high voltage either. Anything under 1 KV or doesn't ionize air when it's on ain't that high.

and how much fucking better would a hyperloop be over just a fucking train that isn't in a pipe?

The main problem hyperloop solves is going fast in a pipe that isn't hard vacuum. Vacuum maglevs have been proposed before, but they're expensive and it's difficult to keep the tube in complete vacuum. Using a partial vacuum leads to air piling up in front of the train and choked flow, which creates lots of drag. When you're on mars and it's already partial vacuum why fucking bother with the pipe?

Guys, just wonder : why isn't hyperloop used for a maglev-like projection ? It would suppress air friction ? And it would be economically viable for crowdy places.

>> No.11386917

That's what I think. The problem of hard-vacuum Maglev is the price, but reducing costs should be possible though.

On mars, if the pressure is the same, there wouldn't be a need for the tube. Exactly because of the reason you said.

>> No.11386993

Because it's meant to be a subway, not a train. Build it underground to block radiation and no vacuum pumps or pressurization system in the tubes, just filtered martian air at martian air pressures. The pods and the stations are of course maintained to an earth-like atmosphere and must be hermetically sealed from the pipes. So the current hyperloop tests are replicating that, just above ground for now.

If Elon is so smart, then how come he hates union and overworks his employees like slaves? Elon Musk is not a genius, ANYONE can do what he does. Hard work doesn't mean success. His rockets are CGI and FAKE. We need to nationalize SpaceX and let NASA operate it. They know how to do it better. You can't have private companies do Space. Its EVIL. We need to nationalize Tesla and sell the company to Ford/GM/Crysler. They know how to build cars. They support unions.

Also Hyperloop is fake. Who cares if it cost $50 million per mile. I'd rather spend trillion dollar per mile on expanding PUBLIC transportation. KILL ALL THE RICH.

such archetypal idiot american rhetoric right there.
well memed anon
do you write already speeches for US Senators and Congressmen by any chance?
because this is the kind of talent they are looking for. excellent use of pre-authorized agenda-specific talking points
you could have quite a career for yourself in DC with this kind of word-craft. just what the average american-idiot,..
ahem,.. i mean, the american voter constituency needs to hear.
