They did this to me in high school, in the UK while I was getting my GCSEs. I got pissed and started arguing with the teacher, in the end they just shut cause no one in the class. Not even the women, thought it was reasonable to force or push women into sciences if they didn't feel like it, and it was perfectly reasonable to hire people based on skill and not ethnicity or gender.

This is called "character education" and I have done a bit of research into it and have some literature if you're interested. You can get toolkits for teachers for teaching kids about social justice. We should just teach kids reading, writing and arithmetic... we shouldn't be teaching kids what morals to have. There's one program in the toolkit I was looking at about teaching third graders about homelessness and instead of teaching charity they teach them the root causes. Which having the ability to think about root causes instead of exclusively film flam makes sense but their root cause is teaching children class warfare and having them write to their mayor about raising the minimum wage to 15 dollars an hour. Nothing about drugs or mental illness. I could talk about where this all came from but in short it's communism. Is 4 dollars more modest? Wouldn't it also depend on the business? Like a local business with just one person working at a time would probably do okay... but a few thousand extra a month for a small business that has two or three working at once kind of sucks. What about a local large hotel that has 60 people working an 8 hour day every day? And then night shift workers which would be only a few people because no house keepers, food service, event managers etc. I agree that especially in cities everything floor level is low skill low wage, restaurants and shopping. And cities are expensive to live in. I don't really know a lot about this but it makes sense housing should be like anything else you buy where quality determines price usually. Some of the low income housing where I live is twice as nice for half the amount of my apartment. And some studios that are way shittier than my place are more money because they are closer to the city.

But yeah homelessness isn't because people aren't getting paid 15 dollars an hour. But we are teaching the kids it is. My mom's friend is a land lord for cheap housing and she has to kick people out because they trash the place and they're doing drugs, some of the clean up is so disgusting. Those people probably can't find housing again because they can't be trusted not to pull shit apart.
