Yup. Algebraic geometry or nothing.

>Is it true that mathematicians hate statistics
For the most part.
>and don’t consider it real math?
Not that I've ever heard.

Stats is math, you can't really debate that. It's just really gross ugly math.

Yup. Functional analysis of operator algebras or nothing.

Only pretty stuff can be math

You're completely incorrect, stats is definitely not math and that makes no sense. Stats is a tool. It is founded on mathematics (the domain of probability) but the central limit theorem and markov chains are not parts of stats, they are part of probability theory. Stats just puts them to work.
A statistician need not know at all how to write a proof, and may never understand why any of these tests they're using are mathematically founded. They are not a mathematician.

statistician here
I think they do, probably because the notation we use is complete trash and we're kinda more employable out the door due to the AI meme.

Honestly, the issue isn't that the notation in statistics and probability theory is bad, it's that statiscians and probability theorists actually go out of their way to use garbage notation.

We don't do it on purpose it just kinda happens lol

Only brainlets say "probability theory". It's Measure Theory, or more specifically the study of the Lebesgue Measure.

>> No.11335482

>>11334799

Only brainlets think "Probability Theory" is the study of Probability spaces. It's the study of random variables and their behaviours - but undergrads like yourself would not pick up the nuance without some adult telling you.

>> No.11335558

Stats is not probability theory. Stats = working with numbers/data after it occurred

Probability Theory = predicting what will occurr

the first one doesn't require any rigorous foundation to be performed, since it's mostly guess work

the second one requires a math degree if you want to do it properly

I'm an EE doing a trading quant internship. I have so much to learn from statistics but it is so useful - the notation is absolutely shit-tier brainlet retarded though. At times I've spent hours confused only to realize the notation that looked chinese was describing something as simple as a fucking (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) slope
