it depends on the time.
if it is too short then humanity will get hasty and die from taking a risk with little to no rewards.
if it is too long then humanity will get lazy and understimate themselves, they won't take a threat like that so important, maybe don't even believe it.
but if you got the timing just right, then you will see humans figuring just in the nick on time a way to escape, especially with that sensation of imminent doom lurking in the back of their heads.
