What now? If the scientific community cannot even trust itself, then how can we trust them? Who can we trust? Who can we appeal to for truth?

>Who can we appeal to for truth?

people who do real experiments and have everything documented with videos and shit.

How many scientists actually do that, though?

How does one incentivise actual science because publish or perish and chasing impactfactor inevitably encourages a bias for data manipulation

How lovely, the social sciences and medicine are absolute rubbish, with only a few people doing actual scientific inquiry. Physics has been stagnant for the last 30 years. Theoretical CS hasn't seen any nice advances in at least 20, with the Machine Learning fucknuts only achieving shit because of greater computing power, which is also about to end. Related to them we have Data "science" that make statistical models of data or use ML to predict outcomes for observed phenomena, no theory construction whatsoever.
At least biology has a small community of theoreticians working with the complexity people.

Only a very small fraction. So what? Are you so hungry for """truth""" that you need a large orthodoxy to give it to you? Trust only those actually putting in the work and give no credence to anyone else.

you're not far off, much of our success was driven or founded by men with a religious to find the truth as a form of worship.
it goes back to the benedictines with their sense of duty to preserve the works of rome

there are facts. then there is bullshit people push because they want to jerk off their ego.
everything that is a fact should be trusted.
literally anything that isn't shouldn't even be wasted listening to

>Who can we appeal to for truth?
Truth? If you want truth, engage in philosophy or theology. Science never cared about what's true or not.
