Let's discuss the controversy surrounding evolutionary psychology.

Personally I believe the approach certainly has merit under the right circumstances but the problem is that it's now become a meme ideology for pseuds to poorly justify their presuppositions about human nature i.e. incel blackpillers who believe that women are exclusively attracted to massive violent chads with dark personality traits.

There is also the problem with sparse evidence and unfalsifiability. I swear these brainlets think that anthropologists have a massive archive somewhere which meticulously details all the relevant developmental phases in homo sapien prehistory or something and this is all "settled science". We're not even remotely close to the evidentiary level you would need to safely assume the shit you hear evopseuds spouting.

Thoughts?

I’m always amazed that people really think like that. I used to go to r/braincels before it was banned and just read the posts. Like ogling a car accident.

lmao you want me to take this thread to /pol/ or /r9k/ where I'll get swamped and reported by the exact brainlets I'm complaining about?

Please elaborate, this sounds interesting.

oof

Also before someone points it out I meant "sapiens" in OP

It was probably a good thing to can it, and the same could be said of a lot of “incel” communities because they literally focus on keeping members “blackpilled” and desire to “blackpill” people outside of the community. It is literally a death cult.

lol nice. Unironically though, we should be trying to take as much woowoo shit out of the study of human behavior and cognition as possible.

I mean this is pretty good description of a lot of internet communities at this point, incels are just probably the most glaring example.

They can be pretty hostile, but I wouldn’t go as far as to say that most internet communities revolve around demeaning eachother until you all commit suicide. The guy who made the Braincels subreddit killed himself.

I wouldn't say most either but a variety of other somewhat fringe communities spring to mind; "transpassing" type boards, certain extreme fetish boards, countless political blackpilled communities which are not necessarily incel (where the blackpill represents some defeatism other than girls not wanting to fuck you, such as the unstoppable Jewish hegemony or whatever), and of course a whole host of toxic mental illness related boards. Actually there have been straight up "suicide advice" communities which have been around forever also.

Sure, but I wouldn’t say people OUGHT TO NOT kill themselves, more so that the conditions that make people want to kill themselves ought not occur, and actively sustaining, encouraging, and spreading a sense of nihilistic hopelessness definitely falls under the latter. Maybe killing yourself really is the best course of action for some people due to a state of sustained suffering of some sort; I don’t know; I can’t put your shoes on and feel how you feel; but if you’re going to do it, you might as well do it in a way that minimizes the involved pain.

Basically every scientific theory which drops a single kernel that could be used as political rhetoric falls victim to this now. See: Climate science.

Did Juden Peterstein ever make it out of benzo rehab from last year? Or has he finally faded into obscurity? Haven't seen that grifter show his face for a while.
Conservatives jumping on board the evopsyche train thinking it will vindicate their traditional morality are going to be in for a rude awakening as the method develops and many of their cherished beliefs become exposed as nothing more than memetic spandrels with no relevance to modern society or even the historical cultures in which they emerged from in a non adaptive fashion. They are harping on about "throwing the baby out with the bathwater" but they don't realize that it is more like a tiny baby sitting in a swamp which is in dire need of drainage. Not to mention the fact that attempting to move from the descriptive to the normative in this sense ends up becoming a naturalistic fallacy anyways.
More proper science is always the answer, I predict that a more rigorous elaboration of evopsyche will btfo of the likes of JP the same way that a more rigorous elaboration of climate science has btfo of the likes of Al Gore.
So there's nothing wrong with evopsyche per se, it's just in its early speculative phase of development.
