I think the primary condition determining the success of a mathematician is how widely regarded as important are the unsolved problems on which a mathematician makes progress. Same thing for physicists.

Tooker is indeed the resident schizo of /sci/, and God, and the German Adolph Hitler, and all of the power structures he's trampled on, and all the dreams he's broken. He's the antagonist of the trilogy. He might not have been a villain, but he certainly wouldn't have been anything close to a sympathetic protagonist. Adolph Hitler is a regular punter with a hammer who does what he wants. He never seems particularly troubled by his insanity, and generally seems happy to wreak havoc and murder things at whim. Kevin in Transylvania was much the same, trying to get rich and running with a load of pretty women. (Now he's known as the First Hitler and probably getting a warm welcome at some queer asian bar.)
