Hi anons

I'm not sure if this is the right board but here I go

Last semester my thumb got an ugly infection (pic related). I did not care much about it and it gradually exploded by itself. My thumb now looks like an average thumb.

Yesterday I was remembering this and now that I look back it was very fucked up, like I have never seen something like that before not even in the depths of Google and Youtube.

That's wicked, dude. I would've popped/drained it far before then. Looks like you got lucky that the infection stayed in or near the skin and didn't go deeper. Infection I had on my fingers once caused swelling where I couldn't move my fingers and had to get antibiotic shots.

One other thing:
If you ever see a red streak running up your arm, GET YOUR ASS TO THE HOSPITAL. That means the infection is speading to your blood and can kill you dead.

Typically seen when people pick/bite hangnails, and then one day tug a hangnail wrong when trying to pick/bite it off. It gets infected, and it gets inflamed. After a while, a pustule forms.

Treatment for this is to pop, drain, sanitize, and trim away the excess dead epidermis so it doesn't get reinfected.

It usually explodes. People can't resist picking them after a while, or after a shower, the softened epidermis pops. That was more of a surface infection instead of the deeper ones that warrant hospital visit.

Never do it. Allow another layer of skin to grow beyond it first (it pops up itself when it's done) otherwise you risk getting another infection.
Also why do you need that needle to be hot, if you'll remove that skin and the liquid beneath it anyway?
