Well /sci/, not sure whether to put this in /new/ or here, but since you're the smarter group (I hope), let's see if you can help me. I was looking at the principles behind value-added taxation, and was wondering if you could do the inverse with value-added tax incentives.

tl:dr fucking taxes, how do they work?

I'm not familiar with the way your using the words but you are being a little vague. What part of value-added taxation were you looking at and what do you want to see applied to value-added tax incentives?

I don't know how taxes work OP
Supposedly higher taxes=more money, but that's clearly not the case
yet somehow some European countries work despite their crippling high level of taxation
Economics is a bitch

You can have a value added tax incentive injected at some points along the supply chain, but having it work its way down to the consumer probably wont happen. At some point in the supply chain a business will want to profit by not passing on the tax incentive.
This would be flogged by consumer advocacy groups as being 'pro business - anti consumer' and would be politicized. These are basically what subsidies are, except VATincentives would be distributed along the supply chain in some way rather than just at 1 point. It would also probably make the commodities markets do weird things (they are weird enough as it is).
TL;DR yes, but why would you

thats my story and I'm stickin to it

short answer no.

VATs only exist to conceal the actual amount of taxation from the general public. It can also significantly distorts markets as the governments definition of a stages of production for different industries determines the amount of tax they pay.

Incentives, tax cuts, rebates, are all functionally synonymous, the government normally taxes you a certain amount, and now it taxes you less. Incentives wouldn't function differently under a VAT system then any other.

Well you see OP the whole premise of Economics is a joke
Scientists have this stubborn belief that human behavior can be quantified, which as of now is not the case (otherwise mathematicians would be able to get laid AmIrite?)
In reality economics works through technological progress. Whenever there is a huge technological breakthrough productivity skyrockets and this in turn leads to an economic boom. However that only lasts for a while until productivity has reached its maximum and the economy starts to go down again. The only way to make productivity go back up is by getting a new technological breakthrough and that takes time.
This bipolar behavior will keep on going until we reach the point in which robots and computers take over the place of regular workers indefinitely. When we do reach that point there won't be anymore need for Economics and we will all live in a communist Utopia.

You described a behaviour of an economic system. This is the sort of things economists study.
