You don't get to choose the more fundamental parts of your psychology and personality. You're born with them since they're mostly genetical. Biological determinism is real after all even if not absolute.
However, some Aspergian traits can come and go and do so quite often in fact. Many Aspergians tell that they go through circles where they exhibit more "normal" and then more "autistic" behavior.

The definition of Autism is so wide and vague as to make it nearly useless as a diagnostic tool and people don't change only because you change the name of the alleged disorder they suffer form. Not to claim that many of these people don't suffer or don't have disorders but it is not a single Autism.

The point here is that there is an difference between being and seeming. You have the ability to work on your representation skills, how you deal with people, charisma etc., which are also learnt skills. The outward effect really isn't that much fixed. But your essential being is much more hard to change with the basic aspects of your personality being more or less petrified by the time you hit the age of 7. By that age, it is possible to properly assert the intelligence level, the inclination to criminality, aggression etc. children will have once they've grown up based on different criteria.

Psychology is a pseudoscience. This has two main consequences:
A) Diagnoses is meaningless and unobjective
B) There is no such thing as misdiagnosis because the only concrete definition of asperger's (or any other disorder) is having been diagnosed in the first place.

It's just a way for people to find solace in the fact that other people share their struggle to some measurable degree.
