Why are math pseuds so amazed with [math]\pi[/math]?

>> No.11237075

It's a social construct. There are universes where pi is not pi and to claim otherwise is pure anthropic bias.

i hate that term, all concepts are mental constructs. then when they are shared become social but they are first and foremost mental constructs.

it's an irrational and a transcendental number, i think it's the first discovered such number

That doesn’t make it all that remarkable to someone who has taken more math than high school algebra. It’s very I fucking a love Science.

You aren't smart for shirking at a constant. And yes, there is something interesting about the first known transcendental number.

>> No.11237123

>>11237110

I'm sure it was remarkable to people who first discovered that there exist number that cannot be written as a fraction of two integers.

π: ratio of circle's circumference to it's diameter

we can generalize this concept to n dimensions

1_π: what we generally call pi, or the ratio of a 1-sphere's circumference to the line bisecting it: 2πr/2r = π
2_π: ratio of 2-sphere's surface area to the area enclosed by the 1-sphere bisecting it 4πr^2/πr^2 = 4
3_π: ratio of 3-sphere's surface volume to the volume enclosed by the 2-sphere bisecting it 2π^2r^3/(4pir^3/3) = 3π/2

in general, n_π is the ratio of an n-sphere's (n-1) bounding surface space to the space enclosed by the n-2 sphere bisecting it: given by the equation:

n_π = 2√π * Γ((n+1)/2)/Γ(n/2)

From this we can see that in even dimensions n_π is a rational number but in odd dimensions n_π is transcendental.

consciousness can only exist when π is transcendental, our space is conveniently 3 dimensions

you exist due to pure anthropic chance

You’re retired. Sqrt 2 was the first known irrational.

No you are retired. The point is π is the first known transcendental.

Accessible.
Also, pop culture. Pi is on tshirts etc because of its accessibility, creating a culture of pi worship.

You didn’t say “not the solution to an algebraic equation” you gave the definition of an irrational number and when the Pythagoreans figured out sqrt 2 was irrational people had no idea whether or not pi was fucktwit.

pretty dank that it took 2000 years for people to prove pi was irrational

Not sure why. Probably because most of these only watch pseudo-scientific bs, but also pop science BS and esoteric new age crap. In the latter, they often only talk about these topics: 1.) angels, demons; 2.) Ancient Egypt and how Pi and Fibonacci Numbers are "Sacred Geometry".

So, now you know where these idiots come from. No denial though that Pi is still an interesting subject though. But some people (mostly ppl who never even went further than high school algebra) give Pi more meaning than it has.

quantities are our only gate toward the rational real world retard. they are the only thing that is certain and there is just so much patterns for it to just be a mere coincidence. units of measurement might be subjective constructs but numbers aren't. a circle that is 8 penises wide will always have a place for ~25 penises around it and the ratio of penises in the circumference to the penises in radius will always be π no matter what you use for measurement
