11222224 No.11222224 [Reply] [Original]

I've stared at this for 10 minutes and I still can't figure out the correct answer.

What's the trick to understanding matrices?

Top left is the answer, I'll give reasoning and tips, below. Was a tougher one, took me about 2-3 minutes.

For each row, remove the middle shape from the left box and there's your answer.

>> No.11222243

>>11222224
seriously it took me two seconds, you must be <70 IQ
It's the two squares and a circle, which ever symbol appears in middle has them all removed... is this a test to see if you qualify as an actual retard?

>>11222242
>>11222243
Yeah you remove the middle shape and then everything just jumbles up randomly, I don't understand the rule. I don't even think there is one, I think the only way to solve it is by deducing through the answers as all the other ones cannot work.

So you want to find patterns and rules that always hold as fast as possible, until you find a rule set that narrows it down to one.
You may not have picked the right rule set, but then technically your answer may be as valid or even more valid than some other set.
Anyway, in the problem you posted, the first thing the eye might notice is that the organization of items in the boxes doesn't seem to matter. So don't worry about that within the answer boxes, just worry about the content, the total of what's in each box.
Next, try to find what you expect to see before looking at answers.
The middle row stands out as having 1 of each, so you might think those shapes affect those rows.
On the bottom 1 square, 1 square, then none, and in the middle 2 circles, 1 circle, then none, so the amounts don't match, but the absence does.
Then you look to see if any answers have no triangles. This narrows it down to 3 choices.
In the bottom 2 rows you notice that the remaining shapes have the same amount on left and right.
So you are looking for an answer with no triangles but the same amount of other shapes, 1 circle, and 2 squares.
The top left.

Thank you that makes sense. I wasted too much time trying to figure out what the rule to arrange the shapes was and should be just be deducing from the answers instead

>> No.11222257

>>11222251
on those problems, if the arrangement matters it usually has to be symmetrical, otherwise how could it?
especially with how offset they made sure to show you that nothing was lined up.
at that point the only other real info you have are amounts. things like number of shapes, number of angles, corners, number of curves, etc.

The answer is the box with 2 squares, a circle, and no triangles (the one in the top left of the answer selection). Took me about 15 seconds.

2 sqeares 1 circle , no triangle is a family subtraction ,

Subtraction from left to right.

The answer is 2 tris, 2 squares, 1 circle - triangles = 2 squares, 1 circle

Seems to me people that have true creativity and problem solving abilities would be confused by questions such as these. It measures how much you think INSIDE the box not outside of it.

You cannot measure divergent thinking with an IQ test and divergent thinking is the key to intelligence.

Nah my IQ is 116. I'm a good standard deviation above the norm. I was in retarded classes until 7th grade when my mom got me an IQ test. She gave the test to the school and they put me in all advanced classes.

Its about invariants. Don't worry about how its shuffled. The things which don't vary are the number of each shape that isn't deleted and the type of shape which is deleted.
With those two simple invariants the only possible answer is the top left.

Bottom left. Rule: add top cell to middle cell. Cancel out figures with the same shape but different color. Result is bottom cell.

You're assuming there is meaningful data in the position of the shapes: there isn't.

>> No.11226969

ok so the middle line with single shape is subtraction
the required answer is the one with two squares and two triangles
top right

>> No.11226979

Got it immediately. Basically the second row decides what shape you're removing from the first row.
So on the bottom you're removing ALL the squares, in the middle you're removing ALL the circles, on the top you're removing ALL the triangles. So it should be the top left as the right answer
