It's called hypoxia.

While you're huffing that sewer gas, it's replacing the air in your lungs. Eventually your blood oxygen content gets low enough to start producing psychological effects.

You could do the exact same thing with helium or any of the noble gases and not have to worry about your breath smelling like feces, and without the ignominy that comes with ritualistically huffing the vapors that come off your own decaying shit and piss. Do yourself a favor.
